Hmmmm.... Just sent them a message tonight, via ebay, and apparently they are in China. Not quite as hopeful as I was previously...
We'll see whether / how they respond overnight.

I would imagine they will be pretty helpful mate, I just had some dealings with them regarding camera equipment and have had a pleasant email assuring me that the replacement is on its way and that they are velly velly solly and would like me to keep the original item as compensation for my twoubles....

On the original listing was the item location in the UK ? hopefully you won't have any problems but sometimes the firms try and demand it is returned to China, knowing the cost makes this difficult for the buyer.
Listed in the UK and they have to accept return to a UK address and ebay will support that.
This is another ebay con where they list and use a UK address but are really in china.

Yes that's a common one, they can also be in China but hold stock in the UK, usually in some relatives back bedroom or garage or one of the drop shipping lock ups around the country.
As long as the listing stated despatched from UK it's easy to sort out.

Yeah - it said dispatched from the UK, and the wife said it was here in less than a week. We brought some (vehicle) snorkels and winches over, last year, and they took two months so I reckon it was dispatched from the UK.
Can't check now cos it's on the wife's ebay account, and she's in bed

Oh yikes - is that right? I fired it in the air so I could set the air pressure. Would that fry the unit, or just upset the tips? Actually, what would it do to the tips as it's not striking an arc???

I do not know one way or the other but have just watched DoubleBoosts' latest cinematic delight and he appears to fire his plasma into thin air, 4.41s
Surely something which could have such a devastating effect would be number one on the list of things not to do in the instructions.

I am out of touch with distance selling regs, think it's even called something else now, so won't give you any advice which may not be up to date and could backfire.
The time periods are the thing to watch, especially if they state they are sending a replacement from China, although I think the times for a resolution have also been extended, some bad sellers try to drag it out beyond your protected period and then zilch.
Ebay has a good community forum with active members who know all the up to date in's and out's of faulty equipment, it's return, best methods and costs of return.
The following is a reply to a buyer with a similar issue to yourself:
Have you opened a case for not-as-described? If so, when you escalate the case after 8 full days, eBay should give you a prepaid returns label which will carry the correct returns address - you must not send the parcel anywhere else. Enter the tracking number into the case.

Damn. So came home tonight to an email from my Chinese friends asking to have it repaired "at the local market" and they would reimburse the cost of the repair.
I've said "Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the unit, there is nobody local who would be able to repair it - please let me know how I can return the unit for repair or replacement".
So worst case, it drags on and on and I have to get ebay/paypal involved.
Best case, they decide it's not worth haggling and/or returning the knackered one and the simply ship me a replacement.
Let's see what tomorrow's email brings...

Gutted skotl, annoying to hear that. Perhaps they thought Glasgow wasn't far and you could try the Barras, I'm sure someone's selling a copy of their kit in there anyway 
They'll have it sorted quickly or you will get a refund through eBay/ PayPal. Don't lose heart; keep stockpiling offcuts to take out your withdrawal symptoms on when you get the replacement

yes if you havent already done so, open a case ASAP, make sure all correspondence is sent VIA E Bay messages, and if neccessary E bay can see your complaint in writing and the replys the seller sends to you, personnaly I find the Chinease sellers more than fair, so fingers crossed for you, but do open a case asap. Dont be frightened to mention negative feedback, if you have not already left feedback - if you have, this can be followed up with another addition to the original feedback you left.

Speaking to E bay Customer Service. it is easy and fruitful, give consideration to ringing them and get it from the Horses mouth what you should be doing.

I think you are leaving yourself open to problems with that specific request, personally I would open a not as described case and go for the full refund option, with a refund you can start again if you wish, you won't be messed about over a long period.
It's best not to make a threat of negative feedback, ebay can often class that as feedback extortion and you want all your messages to be compliant and reasonable.
