For my small needs I've just bought a new Henry it's due to arrive tomorrow;

Like Kim I too have bought this cyclone it's already with me; it looks to have 50mm dia entries.

I already have one of these mixing buckets so today gave it a good clean out; it will need a lid but I've got plenty of sheet material; it's strong;

You miss the point Kim.
A class M filters the finer particles
A Henry pushes them back into the air for you to breathe at your leisure

With the setup, little, if any, dust will make it to the vacuum, and then it'll have the bag & the internal filter to deal with. It's about as safe a setup as you can get.

With yours. That's the main point of a cyclone, to separate the particles from the airflow. Some will make it through to the vac, but very little in relation to the intake volume.

Kind of what I suspected but I didn’t want to say and sound stupid.

Doesn't work like that mat.

Gravity is what separates the heavy particles. The fine particles get through to the extractor and usually filtered.

Test it.

Sand a load of drywall then pull the extractor filter and give it a bang.

Oh and MDF was the big one however all wood is an issue.
Ply hardwoods and soft.

Just ordered one, don't have a cyclone but do hook up an old Vax to my power tools when making wood chips

It arrived on the weekend, connected up my chop saw and Vax and worked a treat.

Particularly like the few seconds delay in switching off the Vax once the power switch on the saw is released

Only minor irritation, flex is quite stiff but it was close to freezing so will let it off that one

in normal ambient air light particles stay in the air longer. Heavier particle stay suspended longer

add a cyclone with the correct airflow and it knocks everything out almost the same

but nothing is ever 100% so the “good quality” filters should knock out the finer particles

If the former then the fact the filter isn't trapping the fine particles does t really prove your case.

What medium. Chopping /planing wood creates larger particles.


Test it with fine sanding.both wood and filler. Or cuts through MDF.

Numatic don't even list the spec for their cloth filter

MDF particles are as small as 0.3 microns

I was wrong human eye can see 25 microns of airborne dust
