Brother in Law goes to India for his dental work.

I had some excellent dental work done in the Philippines when I lived there, for very, very low prices too. I never visited a dentist for over a decade when I first left the U.K. to travel the world, but my shoddy oral hygiene eventually left me with a mouth full of aching sensitive ugly teeth.

My wife eventually persuaded me to get them sorted. This was late nineties, and 11 fillings and a root canal came to £110 total. And it was all pretty painless, with no dramas.

Years later my teenage daughter needed braces, her teeth were all over the place, overlapping, one was 1/4" too high etc. I paid £1500 to have stainless 'shoes' bonded to her teeth, with stainless strips clipped in to them, that were swapped out every two months, for two years, and amazingly she ended up with a row of perfect neat white pearls.

It's a long way to go to fix your teeth, but it could be worked into a holiday, I guess.

Sounds like she is saying the tooth can't be saved or she thinks the best approach is a implant. Implants are good but expensive. Alternative could be a crown with root canal or a large filling that may not last. Best to contact the dentist and ask to talk through your options.

To be fair it's not in good condition and has already had a root filling.
She did talk me through the options but they had jumped from a few hundred quid to £1700 and I can't afford that.

I had an implant done 2 years ago, small tooth next to one of the big front teeth, cost around £300.

That was private too, I've not been NHS for many years, after some idiot insisted I needed a root canal on a tooth that I knew had already been done. He drilled it open, said "oh, yes, you're right" then charged me £150 for a crown to cover it up......

This is because it moves from dentistry to oral surgery which is quite different, with different risk, they also need an anaesthetist too.

Sadly my dentist retired, and the one I used to sleep with between wife's has retired too, so have registered with a new practice more local, so far so good she seems ok, but only time will tell.

Trouble is that NHS dentistry is so cheap - you can have an extraction and other treatment for the band that will be max £42 - - so no dentist wants to do NHS. You can't find an NHS dentist round here and that's been the case for about 10 years.

I've been with the same dentist for 40 years or so.

Trouble is that NHS dentistry is so cheap - you can have an extraction and other treatment for the band that will be max £42 - - so no dentist wants to do NHS. You can't find an NHS dentist round here and that's been the case for about 10 years.

The last extraction I had cost £7.50 about 35 years ago. It hurt so much I thought I had better look after my teeth from now on. And in 35 years I've had just one filling.

my daughter needed work, the initial quote was nearly £400 plus they wouldn't do it without a cleaning fee, another 60.....
she got a cheap return flight here and the job was done for something like €80 cash....
I had a bad fall and needed a lower bridge to the front.....total job was 1200euro's....brill job and from start to finish was 5 days....

Perhaps you could organise bed&breakfast type trips for folks to get their teeth done at the same time, add 10% on the dental fees, winner all round!

This is giving me food for thought. Every year I go to Crete for the commemoration of the Battle of Crete in 1941. We stay for three weeks so maybe plenty of time to book an appointment and get some reasonably priced dental work done.

Haven't heard from my NHS dentist since the plandemic unfolded. Re-registered with my old private dentist about a year ago after nearly 10 years on the NHS. The first thing he said after opening wide was....I can tell you've been with the NHS ....he's sorted a few issues out, had to take a couple of them out as the NHS dentist let them go too far.
The tales of drive by dentistry in the NHS means I won't be going back!
I'll be needing work in a few years so will look into a Euro trip to get them sorted.

Had the same dentist for 37 years. Amazing. Wife's ex boss. Did briefly go elsewhere but soon went back.

My Dentist drives a Porsche - he has had buckets of money off me and wifey over the last two decades. There is no warranty for his work - if a crown falls off - you pay again - if it still hurts you pay again. You just pay... And yes he knows how to charge.


If I am lucky enough - one day he will book his car into my garage and will do my upmost to inflict some of the same pain back.

The Turks are into tourist dentistry, hair implants and kebabs. I know a guy that went there for a new thatch, cost him less than 3k.
