Dental treatment

I have an excellent dentist near me. Had three inserts after also suffering at the hands of so called "dentists".

@Seadog I would happily recommend this practice to anyone within range of W. London.

weve been using a dentist in spain the last 3-4 years , combine it with a few days holiday , its a fraction of the uk prices and none of the b.s that goes with it , god knows what will happen if we dont travel

over there theres dozens of dentist offices , you can just walk in and be seen same day or quickly

I am now paying £36.50 a month. I think that will have to go and I will self insure.

I Durham its about £15 to £18, i did recently get some FREE antibiotics for an abscess! Basic 2 cleans and checkup will cost about £100 a year on the NHS so we are talking about £80 extra for private, and i have the choice of dentist. The only benefit of NHS is if there is a serious problem and a person is hard up, then maybe there is access to a dental hospital, but good luck with that. Do the NHS dentists who are claiming poverty have modern Xray and scanners that cost a fortune?

I think NHS dentist training is basic filling and extraction, anything with crowns tend to be done by older dentists.
All the other up skilled stuff is covered by extra courses which they have to pay for on top personally.
We keep getting referred these days for old crowns that are now playing up etc.

Why else do they refer you elsewhere for anything else saying 'I can't do that' and pass on lucrative work to others. BYW all the clever stuff is not NHS anyway
Half of their time is spent on the medical side, to recognise mouth cancer and all the other nasties we don't know about, a family friend went in for a filling and came away with tongue cancer, it's not all bricklaying, plastering and ripping out. You must have been on a course somewhere that made you think that was worth 2 hours not 2 days.

I believe they are paid more for doing 5 patients 1 filling than 1 patient 5 fillings.

Well I've just had more appalling treatment by the new dentist. I visited 2 weeks ago for a first appointment and checkup only to be told afterwards that the dentist I just saw was leaving and I'd have to come back for another appointment with a new one.
That appointment was today...

They called me and tried bringing it forward twice today but I'm working in south London so couldn't leave work any earlier but said I can make it half an hour early at 3.30.
I get there to be greeted by the same dumb bint with the same 'oh **Language** it's him' look on her face when she tells me that the dentist isn't here and I can't see anyone else.
I complained but got nowhere so walk out the door before I loose my siht, I go back in telling them I'm not moving until someone comes out to speak to me. Someone else comes out and gives me the same ******** but I get an appointment for tomorrow at 4pm.
I now have to travel from Deptford to St Albans tomorrow afternoon and yet again leave work early.
I am absolutely fuming!

This was stuck to their desk along with others about never seeing an NHS dentist again if you abuse us or miss appointments etc
I don't think 5mm Perspex will hold me back if there's anymore of this **** tomorrow...
The whole county has gone to ****.

My crown broke 4 months ago...I don't feel your pain yet but I suspect I'm going to very soon!

My dentist was fantastic...but she retired and now I'm too scared to go in and see them.

I'm tempted to just go abroad...I've heard good things from people who have.

Your loyalty to NHS dentistry is to be admired and you are saving about £50 a year if you have 2 checkups a year. Sadly the country has moved away from quality NHS dental treatment, as i found out 10 years ago.

My local one informed every patient by letter that they were stopping all NHS treatment and we would need to re-register private or find another. An impossible task.

My son found a new NHS dentist but on his first visit was told they are stopping NHS in 12 months time.

Seems like they have to do NHS to get started but can drop NHS after 12 months.
