Problem we had years ago was when our dentist stopped NHS work we had to have a check before we could go onto Henllan.

Last time I can remember having NHS dental work I think was 35+ years ago. I've always had to pay for private.
I've moved around a lot and most dentists don't offer NHS these days to new patients

A new twist on private dentistry, i had a call from my dentist's receptionist to inform me that the owner of the practice no longer did check ups and routine dentistry, but she could sort out another dentist for me. My last visit a few months ago was due to an abscess, he gave me some antibiotics but said it would have to come out and a bolted in one would be £3000, ouch. Anyway it appears to be ok now.
Maybe that is the new trend, if in doubt pull em out. Obviously my £200 a year plus the odd filling was not as lucrative as fitting £3000 (per tooth) false teeth for people.

I have just cancelled my DD in favour of Denplan, as nobody wants to discuss the cost with me. I was under the impression that it was insurance, not a subscription so I will be self insuring from now. £600 a year is not funny and my dental needs have been very few.

I'm in the same boat...broke my crown about 4 months ago...well it fell off and then I broke it!
I've been considering going abroad...not decided where yet but my knees also need some work so maybe it's cheaper to just go on a holiday for 3 months and get it all done.
I hear good things about Canada...anybody been there for dentistry?

Be a good idea to get it sorted, it will be far cheaper than the tooth on a bolt £3000.

Yea I keep putting it off...to be honest it's been causing problems since it was done. I'm probably going to have it removed....I've lost count of the number of times it's fallen off and been glued back on!
I have a mate in Canada...think I'll ask about prices. I suspect the £3,000 per tooth is a UK thing!

I did consider a 2 part epoxy...but dismissed the idea
.Ripping people of and price gouging is certainly a UK thing. Vets are being investigated now.

We decided not to get another cat...one factor was the cost of vet visits!
Apparently 60% of vets are now run by corporate as opposed to independents.
Prices are rocketing and upped every 6 months.

Two weeks ago the bridge fell off. It is ideal, except for the remainder of the 8th tooth on which it was fixed. Japanese metal ceramics, made 24 years ago. A 3D x-ray showed that the bridge still needs to be replaced. Local dental prices are incredibly high for local salaries. I went to Croatia for a consultation, work there is at least 2 times cheaper. Total: two bridges of 4 teeth (one bridge in the style: your jaw in a glass of water at night), 2 implants, 2 crowns (10 teeth), cleaning, 4,500 euros. The clinic has all the equipment.

In the times letters today someone wrote their vet had charged £46 pounds for eye drops, inside was a note that the eye drops were suitable for adults and children over 6 years old. A similar product was available from the chemist for £6.

When a company is nationalised, it becomes like the civil service or the NHS. Far from becoming cheaper, the costs would run away because there is no competion. You pay the rate demanded and put up with the poor service or go without.
