A pal has got a 25kw array on his workshop
A couple of weeks ago I was watching output and it was varying between 1500w and 4000w as we were watching. In August it will be stuck on 25kw virtually all day if sunny.
Perhaps rain clouds and seasons don’t exist in woke ideology

This is why the output is either averaged over the year or you use monthly expectations

I have sites that produce little in winter but an excess in summer, feed in tariff is so low it's a joke, now we are fitting batteries to sell into the grid at more profitable times

I think it should be like a lot of American states where they buy at 90% or give one for one so other than power cuts a battery is pointless, the grid is almost like your battery for night time and bad weather.
Beneficial for both parties, you give them power at peak demand and they get the benefit of swapping it for lower value off peak power

Sourced this yesterday from a pal who removed it from a building being demolished
It’s a 12kva 3 phase inverter. Grid tied but that will be ok for my workshop at home.
The car system is stand alone as the car is the storage facility

tracking solar has an issue

no sun cant track unless its uses a time set via an arduno

time set within a set position where sun might be at a given time of day

I would think even if it’s pointing away from the sun it would gather enough power for the tracker to start moving it if it’s reasonable daylight?


The tracker is only moving the panels onto the most efficient position to track the sun, but the actual tracking mechanism shouldn’t need much power to run itself - similar to the small turbines fitted on the back of wind turbines.

If I can get my knee working I'm going to have a measure up on the roof today to see if I can get enough panels up there to make a 3-4kw array.
I've seen some N type LG panels rated at over 400 watts that might just give me enough.
The only thing I'm worried about it cracking the roof tiles while fixing the brackets.

They seem to claim their tech is a bit unique in that the inverter is bi directional so you can have a higher charge rate from the mains if you so desire, it does look like quite a good bit of kit but not many of them in the UK, more in South Africa.

Looks a good think and there seems to be a large heat sink so no annoying cooling fan if the inverter is indoors.
Source priority facility is very good

My system just went over 1MWh this week (system only online since June), it tells me that’s equal to 415kgs of coal or 57 tree’s not deforested, how accurate that is I don’t know but seems pretty good for a DIY 2kW system that is in a country where solar doesn’t work!

I'm eying up the last third of my roof, as well as the E/W roofs of my workshops. The house could take a further 2kW, the workshops 8 in total...
On top of this I have a 1kW wind turbine to engineer in at the bottom of the garden. Need more hours in the day...

Not a turbine, but a perm magnet 3 phase 48V generator. So I'll have to put together my own turbine.
The nice thing is I have the extender from a set of portable diesel lighting setup - must be 35 ft fully extended, wind up and down on a winch.

In Southern Germany a few years ago on a six week touring holiday I noticed all manner of stand off brackets on domestic ,agricultural & industrial buildings at various angles to angle the panels on wrong gradient or orientation to a better one so tey are out there some where unless each site was set up with bespoke brackets .

Being portable (?) not fixed do you no longer need planning ?

I’ve got the urge to build a wind turbine but I’m worried about noise and the birds given the speed of small turbines.
Though given my track record the turbine might not be that small..

it might be the right guy..... there's a "wind turbine guy" who's an expert at diy small wind turbines, knows them inside out

this designs have special tail, which turn the turbine blades out of the wind when the wind gets too fast.... saving you from having to have a system to brake it and also letting it generate in higher winds


can;t find it but there's another side (maybe someone here will know it?) when you can put in your post code and it'll tell you the average wind speed at different heights from the ground.... helps figure out if it's worth making one



for best output/efficiency you need to me 6m above any buildings/trees etc.
