Looks good, Aldi in the UK have pegboard if some one could ship one?

Picked up some pegboard, just need to decide how to mount it now.

2 horizontally and i will need to cut out the light switch.

2 vertically avoiding the light switch and gas pipe.

3 vertically cutting out hole for light switch and gas pipe.

I'd go with 2 x horizontally, even if it means cutting for the switch. Having seen the quality of what you've done so far, I'm sure it'll look very professional.

Thanks John i'm not too good at cutting stuff.

I will need to pad this out about 2cm, any easy way to make some spacers using something i may have already?

Also should i have the sheets sitting on top of the bench or behind (i'm thinking behind just incase i adjust the level).

I suppose... it would mean a trip out to buy some timber. I have some off cuts of mdf and just received my hole saw how about making little spacers with this?

If you bring it forward to cover the supply conduit(s) to the switch, remember to make it easily removable to allow access to these, just in case......

Thanks for your help guys as usual i got side tracked, trying to level the bench out, the metal sheet is not flat . I have a feeling i need to run the router over the edge of the worktop for it to sit nicely. Trying to get the sheet off the worktop is going to be fun.

^^ That's quite likely, being one of those blocked/glued ones. They will absorb moisture with storing as I know to my cost.

I had one which I intended to turn into chopping blocks/boards but made the mistake of storing it on end, leaning against the wall in the shed - when I went to move it had a pronounced bend in it

I ended up cutting it into pieces to feed my neighbours wood-burner.

I was very lucky I managed to find a brand new piece of laboratory worktop, its a nightmare to cut but is resistant to most things, luckily I didn't pay for it and it was the right size, it s composite plastic

I was thinking mdf, doubt i can get 30mm so 2*16mm.

Or i have the tops that were originally on the cabinets no idea what it is but its very heavy. Could cut these up and screw them to a piece of 16mm mdf will give me 30mm.

If I'm seeing the pic correctly, they could be the kind which is compressed wood-chippings/glue with a laminate facing - they're heavy for the size and I used a bit for fixing my small lathe to [now sold in preparation for the replacement's arrival ]

Would this work ok cut and screwed to a piece of mdf? It will save me buying two sheets of mdf.
Providing i can cut it square.

The wood is for under the metal the metal is only 3mm.
