Drill Press Stand/Cabinet

Got the rectangles welded together. Not square .

The ends are a mess still cant do vertical up.

The gap on a couple of the joints was too big so i had to do little c shapes to fill it .

Spent the morning trying to get the legs tacked up. The Square i bought locally is no longer square . Can someone recommend a solid square? I have a 300mm Bahco one but its black and i struggle to see whats what.

The bench is coming along slowly.

Working on mounting the vice. The problem is that if i mount it as in the pics below i will have to adjust the overhang of the worktop on the other bench which is currently 4cm. I'd like to bolt through the frame but this will probably touch the cabinet doors.

Welded on the tabs to hold the counter top down and added a couple of pieces of box for the vice.

Nearly finished now.

Made a right mess of the counter top on the other bench the drill jammed and launched the drill vice.

If anyone has any ideas how i can secure it, the bolt holes don't line up.

I tried to learn from my mistakes on the other workbench, but i think the first bench turned out much better than this one.

Don't really feel like buying another worktop, I have enough offcuts to cover this one but i would need to glue them together. How about i slap a plate on top of the wood? Would this be ok to weld on until i make a welding bench?

Depending on what i'm drilling i may get a bolt in there but it does not give much movement.

Well it's not a milling machine, one good bolt usually works, two becomes a chore (doable on your set up) anything more is seriously overkill.

I am assuming the table at least can rotate and you're not drilling anything over half an inch.

I suppose i could drop the table all the way down then it would not be such a pain to rotate.

turn it 10 degrees either way and you get 2 bolts in one left top and one right bottom or the other way around depending on how you want to situate it

Get a piece of 1/4 plate and weld bolts to it so the vice bolts to it and then drill holes in the plate to bolt the vice to the table.
The Half pipe idea is the best though, depends on what materials you can find

Fitted the cabinet this morning needed a bit of hammering here and there but its in and a good fit.

Onto the top now, i was thinking about sticking some offcuts of worktop together but one broke. How about two sheets of 16mm MDF with a 3 or 4mm plate on top?

Had a busy day today. Bought the cheapest worktop I could find and ordered some 3mm plate to go on top.

Cleared out all the flammable bits and found a home for them elsewhere in the garage.

Think it should be a safer place to weld now.

How it was when i started.

Tried both benches along one wall. Would be ok if the countertops matched.

I will probably turn the bench as it was before but will need to move the plug socket next to the door as its too low.

I may make a little welding bench to replace the red bench and have the bench with the metal top next to it.

Its a pity that my tig welder has the controls on the side as it should fit nicely next to the caddy mig.

Just need to tidy the rest of the garage now and find a home for the G Clamps.

I noticed the cupboards don't go all the way to the back of the bench you could fasten some drain pipe behind then for storing long things.
