I am confused. You are asking for pictures of the toolholder, but the machine in your picture has the toolholder firmly present.

If the seller has told you the toolholder is missing, s/he is referring to a different part, so it might be worth doing some digging.

If you can get it for £300, good luck. Looking at its condition, £400 is undervaluing it. There are people who would give you north of £50 for the light on it.

It is good to try to get the cranking handle with it (fits cross feed, table height and slide rotation) as well as the square wrench that fits the toolpost bolt. Check the autofeed gear to make sure none of the teeth are sheared off.

Apologies, I guess meant the actual tool then, I thought the original might have been a holder with an insert added at the tip. Are the tools actually one piece HSS? Noted on the value and other checks. Thanks.

That put’s things into perspective.

The available 10M has an asking price of £400.00 as is.

I think £300.00 would be more like it’s value. See pics.

I’m based in Ireland and travelling across with a plant trailer to collect a Harrison 140 lathe and a 2.5m x 1.2m surface table next weekend. There’s room on board for one more item and I think if I leave the 10M behind I’ll be kicking myself afterwards.

It looks absolutely mint compared to what mine looked like when I picked in up. If you're already picking up other items, your transport is free. Mine was cheaper, but add on the van hire, the engine crane that was bought to move it, yours is a bargain.

Toolbit wise, I use either 3/4 x 1/2" or 1/2" sq toolbits without a holder . You can use the Armstrong type holders with smaller toolbits but most that pop up are angled for a lathe. It means you need more end clearance which weakens the tool edge and shapers dont give the tool an easy time (I tried carbide once... didnt take long to chip it!)

Looking at the possiblity of making the stroke adjustment external, or at least improving the clamping as it slipped 3 times during a project. Quite nasty. Might prove to be physically impossible or impractical.

I'm amazed that clamping system holds as well as it does.

I'm sure you've looked at 'refreshing' or enlarging the mating surfaces for more contact area?

Made it, castellations done on shaper, cut down a too big old tool holder for the shank, which needs to be hard to avoid screw damage, needs a welder.

OK for lathes, which are very smooth and gentle compared to brutal shapers taking heavy cuts.

I have another similar home made holder I bought off a junk stall, it has an unhardened shank that has has suffered badly.

Here's an idea, here's a pic of how I repaired my Alba shaper, the part you're having trouble with broke clean of, oh what fun that was!

How about making summat simlier but incorporating a lump sticking out one side, threaded right through to take a stout threaded rod.
The threaded rod could pass through a fabricated support/thrust bearing at the back of the ram, with a wheel on the end.

Not sure how feasible this is, I'll have a look in the morning unless you beat me to it!
