Here's an idea, here's a pic of how I repaired my Alba shaper, the part you're having trouble with broke clean of, oh what fun that was!

How about making summat simlier but incorporating a lump sticking out one side, threaded right through to take a stout threaded rod.
The threaded rod could pass through a fabricated support/thrust bearing at the back of the ram, with a wheel on the end.

Not sure how feasible this is, I'll have a look in the morning unless you beat me to it!

At the moment I'm having to make a stock Bin rack as the t'other uns collapsed/ Using ali weld skills, or lack of. Workshop is a bigger s'heap than ever.
Just as a point of interest when I bought the shaper it had the wrong speed motor fitted a 4 pole instead of 6-8 pole if I remember correctly. Whatever it was, it was twice the speed it should have been. Couldn't source the motor so made new pulley to gear it down.
Went like a demonic sewing machine when it first arrived and tried to escape through the door.
Also main reason for purchase was to produce internal keyways Then I realised it was far more versatile than the miller for small one offs. Inexpensive tooling also. I can be finished by the time I set up the miller. But this stroke adjuster....argggh!
Your Alba is a heavier set machine than the Elliot, but very similar. He use the opposite approach to the one in the Elliot manual i.e. set in the vertical, but then no opposing force to the tightening of the adjuster nut, which is the main issue.

Whilst trying to fathom out the means of connecting the adjustment to a moving system, made me think about the gear cutting. Trying to get an animated system in Blender done. I thought that a system that was detached from the table feed may be possible. i.e. table static and feed link going to a separate unit that would rotate and oscillate across cutter at the same time advancing, using eccentrics rather that gears. This would make a complete gear automatically, same as the gear cutting machines (?) which appear to be vertical shapers? I could well be wrong on ALL points, but I will get a 3d model together.
Might be trying to invent perpetual motion here?
Back to the stroke adjuster.....think it needs to be integrated with the bull gear?

I'm amazed that clamping system holds as well as it does.

I'm sure you've looked at 'refreshing' or enlarging the mating surfaces for more contact area?

Need to dismantle topworks as soon as I get some bench space.

I had a think about this too and I think you're right. I think a leadscrew along the axis of the slot in the bullgear would be needed, the current block thats tightened by the difficult to get at nut needs replacing with one with a compatible threaded hole. Turning the screw would then change the stroke length. But how do you get to turn the screw?

I did think of a cable drive at one point...But I need to get inside to look. This, btw is the gear cutter using the principle I was thinking about....no such thing as an original idea anymore.

Bevel gear driven through shaft centre? Off the top of my head. Wondering how they do it in the Cincinnati ones? The answer is out there somewhere.

It's ok, I finally twigged you were referring to the stroke and not the ram position clamping.

The Alba and Eliot shapers are the same apart from a few changes.

Thanks for that video, I like the way he adjusts it, I've tried it a couple of times and will do it that way now. It's so much easier than doing it with the slot vertical, no chance of the block dropping down and out.

Just wondering is the bottom of your Elliot open which lets all the lube drip down onto the floor?

I sandwiched sheet metal in to stop it happening.

No solid, had to get the nut out with a magnet.

Made it, castellations done on shaper, cut down a too big old tool holder for the shank, which needs to be hard to avoid screw damage, needs a welder.

Well...finally got the vertical 'power' feed working...unfortunately now found out the hard way that it isn't protected by the same system on the horizontal and has snapped the helical skew(?) gear retaining pin. Not shown in the parts diagram but looks like a roll pin? An absolute pig to get at.

I inadvertently started a new Elliot 10M thread.....

But I have an issue with vertical feed shaft. It's is shown in separate pieces in the parts diagram.
I accidentally ran it to extreme and the the taper pin in the skew gear broke. But on investigation there is obviously a long standing problem with the assembly, it's extremely stiff (tore my bicep off) and the calilbration dial spins freely. On the other shaft it seems solid? The vertical shaft is obviously an assembly, but how is it supposed to come apart?

I was confused with the way the calibration looked....it appeared to be fitted in a groove, which is an impossibility on a solid shaft. I was mistaken, just a push-on with centrepinch indents to grip,
