Geoff and his mate MacW*nker are parasites of YouTube imo, spouting utter rubbish with clickbait titles to garner views. Plenty of good videos on GazTube with balanced output to counter the two clowns fortunately.

A fair comment they did make was electric is great for around town with home charging. On a long journey even if the charging was free there is no way i would accept a recharge time of longer than 10minutes, and that includes waiting to plug it in.

I’ve yet to go electric (company choice) but the others are not paying for the power and whilst it’s charging are earning double time. I won’t be seeking out superchargers, I will be looking for the slowest possible

Would that be the youtube video BMW with the largest battery towing a caravan, full charge to 25% charge in 95 miles. They had to disconnect the caravan to charge at motorway services. When leaving the service station they passed the vacant fuel pumps.

There was a time when BMW owners were the bad boys on the road, i think this image has been passed to Audi owners.

Gave up driving Audis 3 years ago, so now it is hard to be a "badass" in a Volvo even tho it accelerates quicker than most most Audis
Motorcycles all my life, so have always been a bit of an indicating pedant, letting the Audi and Volvo rep down...

Really? I bought one because my wife’s electric wheelchair needed to fit in it. She also found it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. Maybe some don’t think any further than their bigotry?

Audi Diesels....hard to keep up with them...once they activate the Audi anti pursuit smoke screen feature .

Volvo non rusting body and vw/Audi D5 engine, manual gearbox, for me is the answer to reasonable cost and reliable motoring.

There were 2 others that caught fire from the same fleet a couple of years ago. The lot were 'inspected' and pronounced safe.

But the scrappage scheme didn't force you to buy a diesel. I know somebody who scrapped an old petrol Clio for a new petrol Clio.
And there wasn't really that much of an incentive for a private buyer to go diesel, other than most buyers simply seen the fuel economy and performance figures.

This is very true. I do not know of anyone who bought a diesel for environmental benefits, although I don't doubt some did. Thy bought them primarily for economy, and discovered in some respects that they were easier and nicer to drive.

But it WAS about saving the planet. It was about reducing CO2, which was the bogeyman back then, of which diesels produce negligible amounts. NoX was not even in the picture back then. America dropped atomic bombs on Japan because it seemed to be the right thing at the time, and were not really aware of the long term effects. (so they say)

This is the only real answer. But I expect the range anxiety remains, and I am trying to imagine the motorways services refuelling facility.

We will not get to hear the truth if it is to do with the batteries in any case.

My gut tells me that in 10-15 years we'll be well into another round of "what you bought was really terrible, you need to buy this new thing instead".

I was paid £2k to scrap my (perfectly good!) petrol to buy a diesel that now wouldn't qualify for ULEZ!....but the con was making us all believe that we were helping the planet by scrapping petrols to buy diesels!

10-15 yrs are light years away with the present exponential 'advances' in technology...shudder to think what the next couple of years will bring?
Add....and (operating) nuclear fusion still 40yrs away?

Does not shock me at all - the bills I write out for EV/PHEV's at my workshop has put me off personal ownership of one for sure.

Even if EV is not superseded by some other fuel, battery and charging technology will render them obsolete long before 15 years
