Ah . . . but if he hadn't stopped at that STOP sign in Nevada, you can be sure a traffic violation would drop through the hotel door before he left . . .
There would be a camera/helicopter/plane somewhere just to get the one person a day along that road . . .

Yeah I know it is - but not without foundation. People with zero car interest & who have zero concern for their image reflected in what/how they drive.... don't waste their money on BMW's, Audi's or any car with a badge premium. They drive cheap utilitarian stuff (or they will till our "Leaders" force these vehicles out of existence). The more affluent with an Environmental bent might graduate to the EV (leaving aside how Env Friendly that really is).
I myself think the older Berlingo's & their ilk make excellent practical, affordable machines & load-luggers..... but there's no getting away from it that you see an awful lot of cars like this being driven by people with "drive by numbers" zero aptitude, attention & interest in the skill of driving. All they want is to get from A to B & pay little or no more to it than point it & go.
(I considered a Doblo or similar as my work shuttle & weekend mtb shifter due to practicality - but my cheap Mk1 Octavia Estate came along.

Just read a bit of the article ..the makers say damage to the battery invalidates the warrantee, fair comment so would I reckon them getting T boned or trucked in the rear enough to pop the front windows . Interesting to read that the base plate under the battery showed signs of impact /scratching & they attribute the impact to damaging the battery.
Likely cause .. smacking the car underbody on a hump / sleeping policeman , just look at the scrapes on the sleeping policeman traffic humps in your local area . or bottoming it in a rail crossing or going up a kerb fast etc IE. Bad driving by the owner . Insurers & local authorities are fairly reluctant to pay up on such claims
If of course the owner of the 2022 car was using an incompatible charger & that is what caused the battery to die & if the insurers can prove it they too will decline any action .

I used to have two cut to shape paving slabs heavily fibreglassed into the back cargo area .Add a Reliant Robin,,,having travelled in one in high winds on Barton flyover.
When I PE'd my LHD 1303 VW with a 1750 combi bus engine in it for a green Super Robin ...... it was not a very good runner .
It had been rolled on the left at some time and partly crushed the LUCAS distributors advance & retard bellows as well as cracking the lh footwell & lh side of the front bulkhead .
I sorted that in a couple of days & enjoyed four or so years of family car use in it . I was thank full of the 70 mph & MPG mileage it gave , for during that time of my life ....trying to learn how to accept disability , times were very financially strained for me .
My son. Was speaking to a skoda dealer yesterday. He was told there has been a marked decrease in EV sales for a few months now.
So much so they don't even have demonstration cars. When they had them they were limiting test drives to 20 mins. They think its so buyers can't do real world driving and see how bad the "real" mileage actually is.
So they really need to keep free tax or they will sell even less.

The full electric vehicles apparently do more damage to the road than ICE.
Now before I get shouted at I have no way of proving this one way or the other.
I can say1/8th scale Nitro engines are less damaging to race tracks than their Ebuggy equivalents who constantly slap the track causing damage.
How were they using an incompatible charger? None of us would have a clue what charger is fitted in public charge points would we?

In May this year I had a 32 mile EV test drive in the local VW caddy sales place , which was next door to the Skoda place . Skoda hadn't any EV's on offer let alone for test drives . because of chip shortages
I had to book the test drive some 19 day ahead as they were doing three test drives a day & each car was returned to show room condition after each test drive . Estimated delivery at many dealerships was 10 to 15 months ..has that improved . My car came to me early due to the original candidate for it expiring a week before he was due to take possession .

Yes they have one available. But it's the sales guys car.
They were struggling to get any to sell but it's gone the other way now they claim. They can get them a lot quicker now as sales have fallen through the roof.
This test drive is for a lease car.

I can't see a ICE car being wriiten off by scraping the bottom on a speed bump a bit unless the speed was very excessive(as in warp speed).
£60.000 for a new battery is idiocy.

I'd hazard a guess that not only are a lot of road surfaces in need of correct repair /resurfacing , a lot of people new to EV's are quite heavy footed on the accelerator and brake needing several months to get used to the different style of driving & faster accelerations .
Unfortunately there is a lot of hype and malicious misinformation about EV 's by numpties & the motor industry side that produces ICE's as they have tied billion up in to making soon to be obsolete vehicles , now the rug has been pulled from under them & they don't like it. neither do a lot of their bigger vested interests share holder .
Locally we have the road & roundabout at PONT ABRAHAM coming off the west end of the M4 . In the 19 years we've been here the road to Ammanford at the roundabout has been removed & re-laid five times , it's only recently that the number of EV's in the area using the roundabout and Ammanford road have increased , The last road repair was a far better repair than the previous ones it's beed done for a year or more .
So far not even the daily large number of HGV trucks have managed to wreck it. Severla long stretches of th M$ between her & Swansea cental have recently bee thoroughly resurafed in what looks like a qy=uality job , Here in Wales EV are slowly coming on stream so as such will not have killed the M4, The stretches Of th M4 that have been replaced ( 5 monthe of road works ???? ) have been " sorted ( Poorly ) eight of nine time in the last 19 years due to breaking up under non EV traffic . It will be interesting to see how it pans out when I can count thiryy EV's on the other side of the road per mile I drive .
I've done nearly 7 K in the EV ( just over 1 K per month ) I am not a timid driver & have to drive with a 68 Kg load in it , ( My electric wheel chair anchored down in the back pluds hoist for it and added automatic door opener /closer .
I love driving and trying to drive well , so far there is no sign of tyre wear ( tyres visually checked once a fortnight and just before some of the 3-400 mile trips I've done in it . ( it has auto tyre pressure checking ) .
Not even sure the old, " Add a few pounds per tyre if you're going on a long fast journey " still applies .

You want to come over here and do some Welsh driving where we have zillions of 20 mph /26 km/h speed limits and even more of the raised berms we call sleeping policemen that are there to stop speeders.
When you see the damager to the tops of these mounds you'll understand how easy it is to rip the bottom of a car up, driving any thing like low slung or low profile tyred cars is just asking for problems so is bumping up kerbstones etc . Local authorities have themselves covered legally as all the humps in Wales these days are well sign posted .

That was obvious a couple of years ago that sooner or later the shortfall in revenue would be planned for and some other measures taken to make up for it.
Having seperate metering is practical, but clumsy. There's no reason why smart metering can't talk to the car and charge (hah) accordingly.
