Hi All
I have just acquired my first MIG and now need to find myself a gas bottle supplier; by the discussions it seems pretty limited for the amateur who is trying to keep the cost down of the occasional weld.
I have come across these boys, www.welduk.com/Details.asp?ProductID=664
Anyone had dealings with them and does their prices seem favourable?

IMO it seems like an OK deal at first and all above board etc.

However it can only work if you live nearby and collect it yourself, if not I would suggest looking elsewhere as Royal Mail will not carry pressurized containers

Hi All,
Are there any reasonable priced suppliers in Central Scotland? Glasgow, Stirling, Edinburgh way.
I'm just starting, I won't be doing any welding commercially, just for my own use really but will need quite a lot of gas at fist for the steep learning curve!
Halfords is near by as always but at £13 for 60Litres I thought it was expensive, but there is no shipping to worry about.

I have just got the latest prices for pure argon from Complete Welding Supplies in Swindon.

Cost 5ltr pure Argon is £18.44 plus vat, £60.00 deposit and £35.00 plus vat
3 year ROU total £122.79

The deposit is refunded on return of bottle.

How does this compare, I'm not sure about the source of the gas to check on the spreadsheet. But the pricing is the same as last May, unusual for something not to go up.

just had these prices from BOC

We have 3 different sizes of Argoshield Light ( prices excl VAT)

Size W volume 11.3m3, refill £44.59 , monthly rental £8.25 and an environment and energy surcharge of 1.09p per cylinder

Size Y volume 4.8m3, refill £39.82 , monthly rental £7.50 and an environment and energy surcharge of 0.90p per cylinder

Size X volume 2.4m3, refill £29.93 , monthly rental £5.90 and an environment and energy surcharge of 0.90p per cylinder

Fixed charge for delivery is £42.55 or if you decide to collect from one of our local stores you pay a handling charge of £11.90.

Size X volume 2.4m3, refill £43.92 , monthly rental £5.90 and an environment and energy surcharge of 0.90p per cylinder. Size 94x14, weight 19kg.

Is it possible to update the gas spreadsheet? I think the last update was some time ago. Don't take this the wrong way, but if the spreadsheet is not being updated is there any point in keeping it?

last week i went to BOC and picked up there price list, for me (stoke-on-trent) the prices are as follows...
All prices are Excluding VAT

Argo Light, x = £44.19, y = £54.18, w = £59.11
Argo Uni, x = £44.19, y = £54.18, w = £61.93
Argo Hvy, w = £58.60

Rent is £8.25 or £94.05 per year

Surely the price should be the same for every BOC outlet?

I don't think we have anyone willing to keep updating this which is why it's covered in cobwebs so it's probably best to simply ring your suppliers for prices, especially as they vary so much between suppliers and also customers.
Of course, if any member wants to take it on then feel free to take a step forward.
