Whoops...

The Rolson grinder running on the Makita 18V Li-ion clone battery started to smoke. It still runs but much slower.

The Makita Li-ion clone battery that was on the grinder as the time seems to run the Makita impact driver and the drill OK, but put it on the charger and after a few seconds you get a flashing green LED which means the battery is fooked I believe? Only hope is when it runs down on the proper Makita tool it might take a charge again.

Any ideas why this is happening?

What model is the charger? If you Google 'makita charger symbols', you can find what all the blinkenlights mean.

Flashing green normally means the charger is plugged in and switched on but does not have a battery in it.

Red AND green flashing is broken battery.

Flashing red just means the battery is too hot to charge. When it has cooled down, it should charge.

The bare Einhell chainsaw turned up:



Found a Makita battery to Einhell / Ozito adapter on Yeggi. Done a quick and dirty print in PLA to check the fit. A bit too loose for my liking.




The guy on the Yeggi link says it's not tight tba. Doing another print and just upping it by a couple of percent on the off chance that might make things tighter.

Need to get some 1mm copper sheet off my brother to make the connecting plates.

This prints this way up. Only 25% infill, doesn't look too bad...this side.



But turn it over and the underside of the V shape release clip, that had supports (snapped off) look dog rough. Any suggestions? Cheers.

Give it a lick over with a blow torch. Make sure it's sitting on a damp cloth so you don't warp the part, only melt the surface.

I'm working flat out, not much time to print stuff so I've packed it up and posted my printer off to a guy I know who is printing for them, once mine is setup he'll have 4 printers on the go

apparently it's all single use stuff, so they need as much as possible having to thrown it away all the time :-o

Printed an adaptor to convert my rechargeable work lamp into one that uses my Dewalt batteries. This way i can just swap the battery if it runs out rather than having to put it on charge.

Popped a buck converter in there to step the voltage down. Just need to be careful that I don’t run the batteries down too much. Haven’t quite worked out if the existing chip in the lamp did that for me. Unfortunately I broke the little BMS on the original cells when I was trying to remove it.

Dont know if this one has come up before, but printed press break tooling!

dose a great job on 2mm aluminium, no creaking or cracking noises, it just works. Tried a long fold but it got a bit cracky as the tooling is longer than my vice and had unsupported ends...
for a little project i designed a little bird house with two folded walls, but found the limitiations of the depth of the vice.

so put it in the press with two bits of box section to bear against, work great!

That press brake is incredible. I've seen it pop up on thingiverse, but thought it would explode first use!

I was very sceptical, make sure to print it the right way round or it probably will explode first use trying to find thicker plate to test it on...

The Makita battery to Einhell/Ozito continuation:

Einhell it seems bought Ozito. From that came the Power X Change system. Seems the same batteries fit both makes.

Off of Thingiverse we downloaded a ready made adapter by a chap named Seibar.



That itself was his take on a model developed by a chap, sportsedan. Seibar's was a little loose for my liking so we increased widths/thicknesses here and there and made it a bit tighter.

The visible face on his, you would see, where the Makita battery clips on looked dog rough imo:



So our 1st print was done with the layer orientation at 90deg to Seibars:



It fits nice and tight, Face you see not too bad:



But.....it was printed with this end sitting on the bed, where the supports came off, it's horrible:



The clip broke as well. Pretty sure the layer orientation didn't help:



Printing another with the end squared off and more "meat" on the clip:



0.2mm layers, black Steadytech PLA.

Watch this space about 8pm tonight!

The battery "terminals" for this are fab'd from 1mm copper sheet, soldered together. Some deft tin snipping to be done.

Got up at 4, my lad still hadn't gone to bed! He had though printed the second battery adapter:








A little rough at the very apex but there's some sort of unifirm pattern in the "weave":




Copper sections next to make and solder. Then fully assemble the chainsaw and test with Makita Li-ion batteries. Hoping PLA stands the test of time and I'm not left wishing I'd printed them in ABS!

That roughness would be the filament layer height. Out of interest, how come they were printed in that orientation?

You can change your support settings to that the overhangs are supported and results in a good finish underneath so the batteries slide in nicely.

Looks good though. I love branding embossed into the parts. Makes them seem a little more "legit".

Can we change the filament layer height in the same print so it does say the last 50 layers at 0.1mm instead of 0.2mm?

As I mentioned previous, printed like this, end on to achieve a good finish all round.

Might try "Einhell clip" to the bed next time as that's not seen once clipped in.

Looks alright I think overall. Did consider some clay red PLA as the tool is red but pricey just to do one tool.

If your using cura you can enable layer height optimisation, I think it's called, in experimental settings. Its automatic but can then go into layer view to see how it sliced it

Seems to assign more layers to some sections and less to others. It'd be nice to have control over what section prints in what layer thickness...

Yes i often find this, would be nice to be able to do a layer by layer adjustment

and i'd also want to be able to add extra wall thickness around e.g vertical screw holes through parts. It's possible to bump the number of walls up in Cura, but that affects the whole model (something that seems wasteful for a lot of stuff)
