You can do some very fancy and wonderful things with U-beam!

Thing is, it takes a lot of effort to make some custom angled legs, and finish them off to a good standard. I've put a price in to a local joiner this week for some, I'm guessing he'll wonder if he's in the wrong game or not...

It’s called ‘style’ which is why we have nice furniture in our houses, not orange boxes to eat off of.

However, I believe the price tag on that table is around 5 grand, so I’ll be sticking to my orange box for now.

To me it just looks uncomfortable / wrong to balance somthing that's styled to look strong on top of pins.

As you imply, each to their own and all that, but it seems a contradiction to me, and not a "clever" one, just a foolish one.

They're levelling feet... to put it into perspective, those feet look capable of supporting 10+ tons of machinery going off what I see in industry... I mean, usually M30 levelling feet are rated to 3 ton static load apiece....

As for taste, we all have different tastes I like that brunel table personally, it would be a lot more realistic if the ends looked cast iron rather than stitch welded plate, but minor niggles...

I know what they are. And, regardless of if they can take 1 tonne or 900 tonnes, there is no sense in using them on an item that has a much heavier build in other respects, as they will always look, and be, the weak point. That's what I was saying.

I always thought they would increase point loading on a wooden floor more than any other issue?

I like the style but the levelling feet just look ‘wrong’ - maybe it’s the ratio

No design brief, this is my vague idea.

Always, but always get a brief and budget signed off and agreed by the Client before buying in materials to start the job.

Saves potential hassle later - you may think you know them well but ructions can arise.....

Oh, and congratulations on securing the job.

The client is paying for the matériels.

Priced up today and in stock.

Prices: 2x1m black steel,

In 6mm, 235 euros.
In 8mm, 315 euros.
In 10mm, 394 euros.

Prices without VAT.

Client has an account, 8mm probably, one sheet does both ends.

Off to discuss with the local laser cutting company tomorrow.

Motor racing company next door has an account I can use.

Client is happy for me to order twice the material, to make two tables.

They have a website, which gets over 1000 visits per day. More than happy to advertise the tables, they'll provide the oak top.

This is the sawmills people.

Then, over lunch, the second table was sold.

Just need to make a dxf file, maybe tomorrow, once i've finaliséd the design.

Excellent Idea, but I think i'll get the whole thing laser cut, and get an angry grinder to bevel it.
