Not too many photos today. Cleaned all the parts and removed the unloader valve, which looks like a spool valve but is, in fact, just a rod that pushes onto the top of the spring-loaded NR valve ball in the small cast body.

Reassembly order for the diaphragm

The unit in all its faded glory. If only I cold find a replacement label. But at least the new hammer drive screws shine nicely.

I have a little Danfoss vfd, it’s a lovely unit.

If you can find an image of a mint one get someone (or if you can do it yourself even better) to get the photo up on Adobe illustrator, re-make the image and get it printed on decal paper as a transfer, then get some nice ally sheet and cut to size. It’s a bit of a faff but definitely doable.

Therein lies the problem. I can't find a single image of the switch, let alone the label.

Not a great deal of progress to date. Some primer wafted over the receiver, motor rebuilt with new bearings. Labels tentatively cleaned AND, only this morning my friend in Bulgaria produced this for me...

Not bad considering I only decided to take measurements once the weather had had a good go at destroying the original water-slide.

That has a lot more on it. The right era but an uprated model, but it shows me what's missing, more or less.

It's been a bit quiet on the compressor front, too many other little projects, and I've been putting of the day when I would have to use my new Clarke's cheapo spray gun.

Well, after too much prevaricating about the bush I bit the bullet and set to this morning. It went down hill very rapidly after the first few minutes. If you're going to hold the gun in, for example, your vice, then make sure that it's clamped tightly

Slopped some paint in a jar, threw in some naphtha for good measure, gave it a good stir and started to tip it into the gun. Well that didn't go to well. The gun fell out of the vice covering my feet, my legs, the bench, the vice, my vernier and sundry pieces for my rotary table including the dividing plates. For good measure the gun didn't miss out either.

Cue some frantic cleaning to get me to a state where I could have a go at spraying some paint. There are no photos, I was too wound up and too sticky to even think about it. It's amazing how a relatively small amount can itself over such a large area. A bit like oil and blood...

Anyway, eventually I got some paint stuck to the metal bits that I wanted paint on

I've never used a spray gun before, so a bit of a steep learning curve, but quite pleased with the results (once I remembered to switch the compressor back on, that is. You can't put much paint on at 30 psi )

Not much in the way of runs, once I'd worked out the settings, and they were wiped off with thinners. No orange peel either.

Obviously an area at the rear of the receiver needs doing, but it was laying down to start with. I got more done than expected and the paint certainly goes further than I'd hoped, so plenty in hand to put another coat or two on. Later in the day I put the pump and motor rails in position to check the belt run. It's amazing isn't it? You think that you've taken all of the measurements and more than enough photos to see you through, but there's always something that you could have done to make life easier. Oh well, at least we're headed in the right direction now. apart from the Bambi compressor is low on oil and it's going to take 5 days minimum to get any I may just have to drain some out of my smaller unit to see me through.

I've been avoiding the very hot days, chose a relatively windless day, and wore a mask

I started around 9am, so despite it being 25°C today, it was a pleasant 17°C this morning, Just right.

Paragon brushing enamel. I may just have to repaint the Boxford now. I was never happy with the brushed finish on it.

Looks very good for a first time with a sprayer. I would of had runs all over the place.

There were some runs, but a quick wipe off and then overspray a few minutes later and it's certainly good enough for what it is.

Today is the last day of light wind, so I had to finish the painting. It's not concourse, but for a compressor I'd say it's more than adequate. A quick strip down on the Bambi preceded the painting since it wasn't getting up to pressure. It was two loose bolts on the exhaust manifold. Stripped and rebuilt in an hour It helps once you know how they come apart.

The lovely Danfoss label that @brightspark gave me really sets the switch off nicely

Not absolutely right, but I'd never know if I saw it on there. I don't have the correct grey to repaint the switch box, so it's as-is. It's certainly good enough, even for me

Originally the pipework was painted but I thought I'd try it in self-colour.

Nearly there. All I have to do now is to get it down to ground level and bolt on the heavy bits. I'll ponder that over a glass of wine I think.
