Ran it through https://imagetostl.com/ and it came out better than importing the jpeg straight into Cura.

Running a 4 hour test print of it now in copper PLA.

Thanks. After all that he decides he doesn't want a resin printer!

Apparently he saw it cheap (on Anycubic at $99), mentioned to SWMBO who couldn't think what to buy him for Christmas, thus the idea snowballed.

Suggestions for a soon to be 23 year old, jobless graduate welcome.

(A job being the obvious so don't go there).

A larger print was going to take a really long while so did just this test piece. This is supposed to be copper PLA. Really want a brass look and I think a bigger print will look better.

B&m sell a good aerosol primer, made by "turner and gray", then the Range do a range of acrylic paints by "art studio" which are £1 a bottle.

Prime.
Paint with metallic gold.(NOT brass! It's too red).
Then a "wash" of watered down black.(with a bit of green in maybe?)

Or: there's a product called "rub n buff" - I've never used it, but it's well regarded in the 3dprint painting groups I frequent.

How odd, there was both a B&M and Hobby Craft at Pembury I noticed last night.

I went in neither. Sat outside and polished off two Asda apple & cream turnovers whilst SWMBO and No2 daughter went in B&M.

B&m sell a good aerosol primer, made by "turner and gray", then the Range do a range of acrylic paints by "art studio" which are £1 a bottle.

Prime.

Seem to have the PETG dialled in nicely. 235 & 70 degC. Making some blocks to fit IKEA wall box, storage cube things.

Photo a bit crap, trying to hit a moving target etc. They've little prongs on that locate in the cabinets holes.

SWMBO got the wrong fixings, 2 packs at a fiver each. Plus it's my fault I opened one so can't take it back...

At least I can escape to Screwfix in a mo once printing is done to pick up the plasterboard fixings.

3 days of mucking about...

Middle of last week I damaged the surface of my flex plate breaking a chunk of the pei off right in the centre .
Took me 2 hours to dial in the plate so I could print around the problem.
Fast forward a couple of days new flex plate arrives, hmm its much thinnner than the old one cue another few hours dialling it all in.
After I dialled it in I started a print, 27% in I get a thermal runaway error .
Reset it all, checked all wiring tightened everything I could find reseated thermistor, tried again...
Got a successful print! Started next one, thermal runaway! Reset and checked it all over heater cartridge has slid out of the block by a couple of mm, reseated it and tightened up.
Decided whilst the hotend was accessible to install a new fan shroud that had been sitting in the drawer since I printed it as my first experiments with found it softened fairly quickly and ended up melting into heat cartridge. I chopped out all of the mounting and remade it in layered cardboard to prevent heat transfer all seemed good, cue more bed levelling.
Start print, nozzle blockage after about 10 layers, stripped it all down again and reset the ptfe tube as it wasn't tight against the nozzle.
Then, thermal runaway again! I had damaged the thermistor wiring, replaced it and rebuilt...
Started print and it wasn't sticking to bed, forgot the levelling!!!!

Now I am 2 layers in to a 4.5 hr print, first layer has stuck well. No errors so far!

All this started because I couldn't be bothered to lift off the plate, flex it , remove print and reset the plate.

I just grabbed the print and yanked it off the bed, it was stuck down a little too well !

I could have written that myself. It is the sort of cascading disaster that happens to me, generally due to impatience.

The printed filament reel, roller stand so far, awaiting shafts. Seems more than strong enough. He'll now play with getting the shafts to fit nicely in the bearings. Probably going to print them in matt, clay red, PLA.

A question for collective brain. I designed a funnel on DSM. Sliced on Cura, time to print, 12 hours. Start printing on Ender3 v2, time to print 36 hours.
Are either any more reliable than the other?
I just press print and leave it alone, sometimes it jumps from 36 hours to 50 then back again to 24.
Odd.

I would trust cura more than what the printer says. Im not sure how they calculate duration and percentage done but Ive had some long prints and the printer always estimates longer than it actually takes.
