I'm not sure of the setup on your JD, but if an internal seal is leaking, it can cause the ram to act as a displacement ram, in that it will extend instead of retract if you apply pressure to the rod end.
I've seen it a couple times where the seals will leak under light pressure and extend, but retract normally under higher pressure.
On a steering ram, I could see a similar fault result in a drift to one side.
Interesting though - I havent spotted D in the second pic before. This is the valve that prioritises steering and brakes that people have spoken about. I didnt think i had it as a - i havent seen it and b - its not on the steering bits of the parts diagram... its in the hydraulic bit! (like the steering cylinder and tie rods are all on the axle section and not the steering section of the parts and WSM!!)
I will go look for and service that now. Not hopeful though as would imagine i would have a problem with all steering not just to one side if it was an oil priority thing.

Leave it with front end in the air, swap hoses to the cylinder, let the tractor run for some time and see if you’re getting any drift. If you are then as said already it’ll be valve. Have you visually inspected the cylinder?

On a side note to, the more stuff you pull off and start stripping the more faults you could end up putting on the system. Start with simple things like swapping hoses, visual examinations.
No drift at all with the wheels off the ground. It turns the wheels as you would think it should. I haven't swapped the pipes though as it doesn't drift as it is.

Have taken the pressure control valve off but it was really quite clean. Iittle bit of grime on the shim washers. It's back on but I haven't been for a test run. I don't think it will make any difference.

Have you inspected the cylinder for any leaks? You’re going quite deep into it before doing the simple things.
Nothing at all external. I have followed what I think was a logical process following the brake friction material on the right disc disintegrating and blocking all the hydraulics. I assumed that had caused the issues I am having with the steering but they are starting to appear unrelated!

Hmmm. Just tried this again and actually very little change at full lock. Very little resistance too as in I can just keep turning the steering wheel once it reaches full lock - but I don't know if that's normal with a steering valve?

At full lock, the steering wheel should stop turning, then may continue very slowly if there is leakage, if you can continue steering as normal at the wheel there is something seriously wrong like leakage across the steering cylinder, a cylinder relief valve set too low, and anti cavitation valve leaking or the steering valve leaking internally.
Ah. Here we go then - we have a problem here. Basically virtually no resistance. Can carry on turning the wheel as if I am not at full lock. It was like this before I started rebuilding the orbital valve. I cant remember if it's always been like it tbh.
How do I diagnose this!?

So an idea to diagnose...
Get the other half to turn to full lock one way and hold it just off of full lock. Take the hydraulic pipe off of the other side of the cylinder and get her to turn to full lock and keep turning. If it's the cylinder seals oil will come out as its passing across the internal seal. If that seal is good I will get no flow. Will that work?
Also - am I right in thinking that to turn right the orbital unit puts pressure into the left side of the steering cylinder? If the above will work, I need to get my sides right!!

I have a problem with the steering on my landini mythos 115. The steering has gotten very dodgy on the road has no feel and the tractor wants to pull to the left and you would have to keep turning the steering wheel just to keep it in a straight line. What would be wrong with it? Could their be...

You pressurise the right cylinder port to turn left and vice versa. Yes if you take off the left cylinder port connection and slowly turn steering right from full. Lock, no oil should come out and if oil does, the cylinder is leaking. If much oil comes out the left line back to the steering valve, it suggests the steering valve has internal leakage. This test could get a bit messy, wear goggles. Edit should be pressurise right cylinder to turn right - should not type responses when in a video conferenceI was having a read around. Haha. I moved over to the digger after failing with the tractor. I am black with oil from that thing!
