Ive seen ural 4320 command centers sell in the uk for about GBP 6.5k

At that price, if i had anywhere to keep one, i think id have one.... As you say, they are truly monstrous.

A chap has one at the Adventure Overland Show in Birmingham, UK each year, which i had a poke about in last year, but, again, i can only lust as id have nowhere to keep one.

all these new vehicles are rubbish, as they are heavily computer controlled and use very cheaply made plastic, and lights, i have sen many many new cars getting around with blown lights it aint funny, i bet you any amount of money the manufacturers use very cheaply made Chinese bulbs.
you see everything is made to break down eventually and it is purposely made so that when it breaks consumers have to buy new.
and do you know who can sort of blame, the countries that taught the Asians to build, i know for a fact the Scottish taught North Koreans how to build ships, and now look no work for Scottish people same goes for any country that used to make items. the only way to get manufacturing on large scales again, is lower the cost of living, and that means pay cuts and cuts to items we purchase and we may have a chance. but that means everything not just workers pays i mean fuel food water power, it is possible just not going to happen while people are so capitalist.

when my land rover becomes too much to keep running i would consider buying a russian made truck or soviet vehicle as they are still making parts very cheap and all work can be done by the owner.
i like to do everything on my vehicle, i once took the old 1963 landrover to a mechanic for him to look at it, and he said no way im not adjusting anything as it will bugger stuff up, how you have it is good. so i cant rely on anyone near me to do work so i do it myself.

i dont like the idea of spending big on making something look real good as you wont be able to use it as a work vehicle you'd be affraid of damaging the paint job or other stuff. i think a working vehicle should look ok but spending lots on it sort of makes it useless as a work vehicle as damage will happen. my vehicle has chips and scratches all over it yet im not worried as the paint job is only house paint that is rolled on only costs me about $60-80 to do a sad down and repaint, i do that every few years, as the paint begins to fade and chips.

I'm a fan of the lived-in look too.
My first two Defenders were ex-farmers vehicles and looked the part. My current one was previously owned by a city slicker (probably owned more than one pair of shoes/had fibre broadband etc.) All fancied up with a snorkel, off road tyres and the like. Radio too. It wasn't until my wife jack-knifed on an icy road towing the horse box that it started to take on a bit of character.

Nothing wrong with pride in your vehicle. What's the point in spending 13k on making it mechanically good then not doing anything nice with the body.

There are work vehicles and there are vehicles for pleasure.
I hammer my works van and it only gets washed when I slide down the side of it in a tight car parking space and end up looking like I've just done a 5 mile cross country.
On the other hand my road bike gets wiped down with baby wipes after a ride and still looks brand new.
