trying to work out how to get the landy into my workshop for painting (carn't spray in work workshop!) have looked at the wheel skates but they seam a lot for glorifies casters! was thinking 4 big casters bolted to bottom (wheels removed) with unistrut/ steel box. question is how much does a lightweight weight stipiped down?

Saw some bargain external steel framed camping tents that should take a 3/4 tonne landy easily About 6 mtrs long and 3.5 mtrs widein ABC camping Swansea for £ 230 they would make a brill outside quick errect spray booth perhaps .

I bought a second hand awning/tent thing for £50 when we had to spray something outside. It was massive and would easily take a landrover.
You could have had it, but it blew away last year.
It was pink, mind.

managed to get most of the electrics working today. there was several bad earths so back where i started electric wise. all the cableing etc landed today so still going to rewire but not so much of a hurry now. new canvass arived today so looking a lot better. have seatle on a pain scheme dessert DPM but waxoil first painting can wait for the spring or over christmas when i'm in work and no management in!

Not sure many vehicles were seen in Desert DPM mainly, plain desert sand colour.

might just go for sand then. i have seen a few done in DPM and igt looks cool better than olive

Most DIY spraybooths I know of are gazebos. Garden centres selling them off cheap now the summer is not going to happen.

update on progress. not much has happened apart from the crankcase breather has been reconstructed, car re adjusted to suit, choke cable fixed as the outer had split and it wasn't doing any thing which made starting in the morning fun! handbrake has stopped latching so for the moment there is a block of wood in place to hold it. I have been buisy on a project for the landy i have a scraper to collect in near future so needed to get t on a trailer so using a dropper plate (20mm thick!) have made a bracket with my winch on and a top ball on front that fits on the front tow bar has been tested pulling mates landy around

handbrake has stopped latching so for the moment there is a block of wood in place to hold it.

I seem to remember the ratchet pawl is available as a separate item for only a few pounds if thats the problem. Think I bought one for mine but it turned out it was the rod from the button sticking inside the handle due to the handle being slightly twisted.

it looks like the bracket that the ratchet clicks into is warn so will take it off and regrind or use the one out of the scraper i have comeing

update on progress. Handbrake fixed the ratchet wasn't catching properly reground it with the angle grinder and that fixed it.
The rear diff went pop the other day so fitted the one out of the front of a civilian one (like new) as well as new half shafts, driven members and military end covers.
The hard top has been fitted and it a lot warmer and less draft but as expected there is a bit of condensation not helped by the sheet of ply wood being used as a rear door. it the process of rebuilding a top tail gate for it

I have got a 200tdi engine to fit to improve mpg and give it a bit more get up and go. I was thinking (after doing some internet looking) of leaving the turbo off to make the fit easier by doing away with the intercooler. has anyone got a copy of a workshop manual for a 200tdi kicking around as the engine needs a bit of tlc it was removed as it was burning oil i presume this due to worn piston rings?

well since last post i have fixed the rear door. the skin was total shot with ali corrosion and the frame was not to sexy in a couple of places. so off cut of ali plate was purchased and tiger glued to the frame. a gas strut has been used to hold it open. i have rebuilt a second gear box ready for fitting with the 200di engine and have striped and rebuilt an overdrive to go with the gear box for the conversion. The hand break fix didn't last to long and right hand plate are not easy to come by so i got a left hand one cut the ratchet part off and TIG welded it onto the old bracket. Other than that its just been keeping her running through the bad weather. Getting close to the point of fitting the engine so that going to be a good time to take all the panels off repaint etc

I'd have to put a second gas strut on the back door, i'd never sleep at night if it wasnt level when it opened.

If it was level & square it wouldn't be a Land Rover!

Only an addict would spot the hard top overhangs the bodysides because a lightweight has a slightly narrower "waist"

Nice to see you've still got the wheelarch toolbox, a lot go missing.
