well i own a land rover! had a look at all the points identified and all seams fine. odd little bit of rust around windows on doors and in rear wheel arch. the chassis looks and prodded sound ant the bulkhead looks top condition including around the vents. couple of niggle bits to sort being window washer jets and working out how to get head lights on it still have the military switch and Infra Red switch the gear box is a bit hit and miss on gears but thats me not being used to old gear boxes any more!

Fill the vent panel with hot waxoyl. Mine looked great in 2000, not a single mark on it. A few years on the odd bubble appeared, now the inside seam is about an inch thick rust! The rear cross member outsides are blind and rust, wack some 20mm holes in the blind section and give that a good waxoyling, fill the 20mm holes with rubber grommets. Gear lever is usually tightened up a lot by fitting a new screw that stops the lever rotating. Sure there are plenty of other things people will suggest.

have just got a compressor so was planing to squirt wax oil were ever possible! have got a few 20mm rubber grommets

can any one think why a snorkel would have been fitted to a petrol? only thing i can think of is dusty working environment

What does the distributer look like ? does it look normal? as the army used them in deep water as they make a kit for them the plug leads are about 1/2" thick and screw into the cap and the plugs are special as well you will be supprised how well they run when they get wet ( normal cars just cut out )THESE just cough and splutter and run on 2or 3 cylinders, just give a large spray of WD40 and off you go,,
GOOD job its not a V8 cus if it was just show it a bucket of water and they start spluttering,

Nothing is normal on a landy! Im not sure what a normal one looks like i'm afraid as i have never had much to do with distributor caps (last old car was a 2CV) i did wonder if the MOD uprated that kind of stuff when she lands on Sat i will take a few more photo's. WD40 is great stuff i think it time to get a 5L tin and reclaim the tin of duck oil from my mum

open the drivers door and look on the seat base, there should be a plate with the military reg no on it. if it says 56 KB 56, i crapped in the back of it.

Yes if they have been modified with a water wading kit all electrics are insulated and various places are taped up snorkel tube put in and a whoopee cushion type tube neck has been put on the exhaust pipe to stop water ingress , you can remove the top and stand up and drive with your bonce out the water but it is much more fun when wearing diving gear .

Note :-
Not all the above the waterproofings are done at once , usually it is done in stages as you progress to the water obstacle starting back at base where there is time to do most of the prep.

Once past the obstacle you have to do some quick removals to stop overheating etc.and allow fuel tanks to breathe.

Don't go chopping off " earthing " links that look like they're not doing any thing ..they might be earthing out two panels to stop dielectric action from disimilar metals and prevent panels losing electrons and getting holed.
Or it could be part of radio interference control

Bung up some piccies , well before you go chopping stuff etc.

It's 24 HF 74, you can apply for a copy of it's military service record

my landy has arived! have managed to get the light to turn on! its got landrover wireing pixies thought as at one point i had it all working including the hazzard light and then only on side light etc etc so tommorow its time to evict the pixies and introduce moden electrical theory to it!
