How are you converting cu.m to kg? Around here firewood merchants sell in "loose volume" where a cu.m would be more or less equivalent to dropping the wood randomly into a one cu.m volume container. That comes out about 250kg for softwood @20% MC.

I was being VERY generous. As you said ton bags are only a ton when full of sand! If it is 2 standard size dumpy bags only about 500kg.

Birch burns fast, a lot of heat but it doesnt last. I have a large stack for my fire pit from a tree removal last year. 6 months under a tarp will season it adequately.The birch should be loads better burns hotter and longer I think, you can see it working already looks like sweat on Mrs Racediagnostics brow!
I'd suggest find a local arborist, cut, split and season them yourself. Arbs will always have a surplus of logs unless they are also in the firewood business, some are but usually just the bigger ones as it takes a large amount of space to do commercially.
No doubt they would eat it too. Eat anything, those Frenchies.

Ash is the king of firewood, can be burnt straight off the tree, loads about due to ash die back too, so many trees being taken down.
Im not fussy as long as its dry and burns. Soft wood heats the house, just need a bit more volume.
I worked for a guy that did Firewood, and did dome work on the Woodsure/Ofgem legislative side for his paperwork, licensing and accreditation.
The interesting snippet was that to get the equivalent amount of joules of heat from proper kiln-dried Firewood to equate to 1000L of Kero..... took between 6 & 8 Cube of wood.
Now.... when you add up how much that much wood costs if you need to buy it, versus 1000L of Kero..... and its not cheap at all - quite the opposite.
Add in the dirt, dust, Ash cleaning, the inconvenience etc.... & IMO it only makes sense if you have your own source of free or very cheap timber

Seems to work ok for the ISS.
Wood is definitely cheaper than leccy!
Lots of folk Inc my daughter have log burners just because they like them and a real fire etc. I was just saying as a purely economic choice, it's not the best one.

but fitting a back boiler to a wood stove gives outputs to radiators therefore moving you away from an electric radiator
I agree if you have gas or oil.
Not always so simple though.
My oil boiler runs 23 radiators! Even so the end of the house with the wood burner never really gets warm so I tend to use the AGA to heat one end and the wood burner the other. I only use the boiler for hot water and to take the chill out of the other rooms perhaps 1hr a day.

I agree mostly. But unless basic and gravity run it makes things hard to use if not impossible in a power cut. We toyed with adding our lounge log burner to the thermal store but haven't bothered for this reason partly - plus the pipe run is a pain.

The electric radiator is consistent & needs no tending though. Just set the temp, & leave it to it. Flat doesn't need wet radiators, realistically. That one electric rad heats the living room & bedroom nicely, & they're the most frequented rooms.
