Still curious as to what lathe it came off.

Yes it's definitely a faffing hard ol lump .very small cuts and time consuming . Would be interesting to find out what it came off of

I started off with carbide . Slow speed. It doesn't chip very well. It's almost like turning cast.

Well I did eventually get the holder finished. That was painfully time consuming and an ass to face. It's not a NASA finish but it's flat and good enough.

I can if I machine another tool post. As the thread on the original is post is acme. The Mellor is whitworth. But in the pictures below you see I can turn up a sleeve and it will work.

It's a lovely tool holder and really suits the Mellor lathe. With the bottom faced off I can now use a 12mm tool

Good. Please it's being used rather than sat in my drawer.
Could have made it work on mine but would always have been too big for the compound slide.

I no what you mean. Hence why I can use the tool post. It came off a heavy lathe that would of had a thick compound.

mine would have had lantern posts originally.. fitted fine but because of the 2 offset t slots it would always overhang. if it had a central slot...

Been busy making stuff today. I could not use all the original parts but got close. Just got to make a sleeve and a handle for the hex nut. I did consider making a removable handle that fits over the top. But will turn up a normal one.

Some tool posts like that work on a ratchet as you rotate them round. Yours doesn’t.

It would have once had a ratchet, that's what the random hole in the base is for. It would need the base that goes with it.

Today I made a sleeve. And made it on the Mellor. Happy days i made something that fits a treat and works.

Any way you can make a cover for those exposed screws? Those troughs will fill up with swarf in no time.
