Easiest way I've found to dress welds flat on panels that are seen , is a piece of masking tape either side of the weld and a flap disk .

When the disk starts scuffing the masking tape ... time to take care as your nearly there .

I've head a lot about the drain ( also called Tom's Knob) being blocked and allowing water into the foot wells ect .

Where is it located and how do you get to it without cutting the bulkhead to clear it ?

I have cut the bulkhead panel using the seams as a guide for a plasma torch.
I will put some new flags on the this piece and the bulkhead then spot weld it back. I want to keep it as neat as possible.
I have toyed with putting an inspection panel in there to cgive some cleaning access. But it would mean removing the heater box to get at it

You can access it from inside the car = drivers footwell to be exact.

If you unscrew the air vent that is up on the left hand side of the transmission tunnel, you will the the vent tube (if still fitted) or the stub onto which it’s secured by a jubilee clip.

Access is a bit difficult, but not helped by being on your back with all sorts of bits to restrict movement.

I’ll try and post a photo later on, since I’m wiring up the dash at the moment and have to venture back down there to finish off.

Must have been the first item they fitted to the shell as it started its journey down the production line......

The Belgians I think did a body mod with headlights fared into the front wings & de seamed, can't remember if the rear was modded saw it Abingdon in 1964 it looked superb. It like a miniature Ferrari

Did a google search and they did mod the rear end some what ...

Anyway, full of admiration for you guys rebuilding these MGs - I really would like to, but every time I've looked at doing anything to one it infuriates me - too heave, too complex, too difficult, underpowered, but they do look good, especially with sebring arches and a bonnet bulge.

I'm the black sheep and am doing something different in a racing style ...

(160 BHP in a fibre glass panel car would eat most cars in the traffic light GP eventually ...)

Well fwiw @HopefullySoon I would be with you on this one, gutted, lightweight, modern engine and suspension if I was doing one, trying to persuade someone to fit a kv6 in one...

Agree they literally built the car around that box. Must have had a guy at the start walk down the track holding it.
It is a very trick repair.
I'm fabricating a box liner with a deeper draining area so water won't sit as much as the original. Then I'm going to paint and seal the living daylights out of it

I have a midget that I'm debumpering
Just finished floors sills on one side.
I have a five speed type 9 lotus spec gearbox to go in. I also have a 1.8l turbo k series engine for it. But recently decided to look at using a 1.6 ecoboost instead.
The mgb we bought about 20 years ago. For me it's a car the ebayers would have stripped for parts. I decided mine would be a survivor by hook or by crook. I do bits as money allows. I am thinking it might be back on the road next spring

Just a general observation, and the midget sounds fun and up my street ,, If you go down the Eco engine route , shout me if it's a 160 BHP K engine your not going with ... I may find a home for it

It's OK I dint think you were being disparaging. Your quite right all cars all flavours.
The K series is out of a rover 75. I'm told it had a sticking valve.
Iim not going to use the engine so I never looked into it. I would say it will need some work. If any one wants it I can take pictures at some point and they have it free of charge. They would need to collect it and be able to help move it. Food for for thought when Covid is under control

I did exactly the same...I can't believe that could nearly have been the MG coupe...but for someone thinking "it looked too italian".

I actually think that's a very nice looking car indeed....just a shame so few were built.

This air box is tricky
I replaced the floor of it first then cut out the left side and fixed that in.
The right only needed a small repair.
I will put in assume flanges to fix the front panel back on.
I'm going to lead load the inside floor of the box before I paint it.
When you lead load you tin the clean metal first. I rarely find rust under lead loading so this makes sense to me.
I bit like a flat roof.
A lot more work to do on this yet.
I need to do my best to stop water sitting in there.
