thats a nice touch ,,, well done.Had message from Will just now he’s finished grinding the shafts!
And he’s engraved the top wheel for my pal who’s having one.
Will is visiting Sunday to drop them off and have a precision fest with my jig borers

Traditional apprenticeship and natural talentThat lad is a master in the making
This might sound a bit bratty and it’s definitely not meant to but here goes…That lad is a master in the making
Some folks have talent like Idiot Savants, minus the idiot part. This might sound a bit bratty and it’s definitely not meant to but here goes…
What does that mean?
From my perspective as a spare time shed metal botherer being able to engineer to a thrag or a smidge or a tenth of gnats cock or other more conventional units puts you top tier in my book.
What do you chaps who know what your on about think sets someone apart in the upper echelons? Is it the speed or repeatability or is there some sort of mr miyagi test where you have to catch an arrow?
Whatever it is I like seeing it so keep it up!
When something being cock on isn’t a fluke! This might sound a bit bratty and it’s definitely not meant to but here goes…

I was once told I'm like an Idiot Savant, but without the Savant part. Some folks have talent like Idiot Savants, minus the idiot part.
… When the do make a cock up, they don’t flap, just crack on, rectify the mistake and no body will be any the wiser…When something being cock on isn’t a fluke!
When they achieve said accuracy whilst not even concentrating
When it’s done quicker than a average machinist can do a average job
When the job has a special look a bit like Taylor Hobson or newall stuff or high level model engineering
you can teach most folk to be good at something ,, but the wee bit that steps up from good to great is in your make up , be it in your genes or the way your brought up but some folk have it , and things are a cruise as it all just makes sense ,,, or you dont and things become something you can do but you have to work at it.This might sound a bit bratty and it’s definitely not meant to but here goes…

That’s way too technical an explanation. Way it was explained to me by my Journeyman when I was an apprentice was like this…. “ You know when you have finished your ablutions and are done with the paperwork? Well, if your paperwork was a bit shoddy and you inadvertently raised your paperwork hand to your nostrils before washing them, and detected a faint whiff of *****? Well, that’s a micron” ….Will splits gnats cocks for breakfast.
You're talking tolerances of a tenth either way.
That's 0.0025mm.
Plus he achieves amazing precision at home on his model engineering machines, pantograph, beautiful little jig borer, and a myford if I remember correctly.

Unless you ride two stroke motorcycles...... those who know, will know.Micron is just a word that doesn’t concern anyone in the real world!
