This is a superb example of why quality gear is so expensive. The skill and quality of this work is superb.

I’m only earning £25 a day not including £50 a day rent £10 in fuel and £10 electric!

Actually I seem like a madman but the exposure these have created was much cheaper than advertising

There must be some money in them clive or you wouldn't do them. Or is it purely for your own satisfaction?

Theres plenty of heavy equipment repair, machining, welding work out there. I know its boring and probably doesn't stretch the old synapses like figuring out how to fixture a piece of cast iron youve designed etc, but the money is out there.

Like i say, my contacts at Hanson always need emergency machining carried out. But they need a fast turnaround.

I appreciate it Brad but it’s no good asking on a Friday night about a job for Monday as there’s no Sunday workshop access
De fixturing a machine for one job is a pita that again I’m not interested in
I’m not putting knarly poop on a rebuilt jig mill
I’m not a job shop it’s batch work and manufacturing

Exposure is only worth a loss leader if it generates good business. And puts bread and butter on your table!

A American buyer showed it off which has led to two full size sales this week

When I first proposed it I was still busy with turning work so shafts ,wheels etc would have been from offcuts I produce
This then wasn’t a the case , then the steel crisis energy crisis etc etc so costs escalated rapidly.
But as a pre order situation that was my problem and you never go back on a price unless there was no deposit or payment and the job itself changed. Obviously later prices were increased by £300 batch two will go up another £200
Chinese bearings would be fine in such a situation but I couldn’t do it so that made them dearer but That’s just how I work

If the was more budget I’d screw cut shafts which were oversized, harden then grind to diameter but there isn’t!

I've been living under a cave and missed this - great work Clive. These look amazing. If I wasn't working on 1980s Renaults, where the panels are only curved in one direction, I'd have a use for one

There’s a train line on the border which produces copious amount of detritus and he won’t pay to clean that up.
As it blows into my workshop I paid for skips and a good cleanup.
