The last hub/bull gear is on. Clutches have been adjusted to the settings I had before removal. Final adjustment will be made when its complete and running.

While I am sorting the remaining parts for the spindle...I thought I'd attack the monster 3 jaw it came with....

12 inch. You mean backplate fitting ? L taper wasn't invented when this machine was in design

Chuck looks bigger in tbe pics. Mine is 12" I think and I have a 14" 4 jaw along with a 24" faceplate.
Bloody heavy things to play with.
Maybe we should have started collecting stamps instead

Yer you no know that. Can only just about lift it. I definitely wouldn't be able to thread it on the spindle.

Cleaned the remaining parts for the spindle. Will give these a light buffing after I re drill some holes that some dk has messed up. Made a start on cleaning the chuck parts.

Chuck body and parts have been cleaned from grease and crud. Now to make em look nice.

I will weight it later. Without the backplate. But complete I can just about lift it on to the bench.

I am guessing about 50kg. My 14" weighs 80kg but the L1 taper adds quite a bit. It scares me when spinning at 1000rpm

Biggest chuck I have is a 12" 4jaw, heavy and no good for your back leaning over the machine to fit it. Bang goes your back...
At some point Im going to build a hoist to take them from rack to machine.

That's all the chuck parts sorted. Assembly tomorrow probably.

Finally finished the evening off with a bit of primer painting on the chuck backplate. As it's not a machined finish on the outside a little black will make it pop against the chuck....will top coat tomorrow....and that's me done for today...

I cant get rid of the awful teeth Mark's left behind by some toss job. But have made a start taking the worst down a fraction. Just got to re drill the hole and a good polishing View attachment 220704

Yes. Its had some abuse but mild compared to some... if they had used the correct method in the first place it would of been ok. That's what the hole is there for. But I will make s big c spanner to do this....
