At school one time, I was making a cold chisel on the forge and some other herberts in the class were @rseing about and the teacher called a halt to work to admonish the idiots in front of everyone else.
I'd just given the chisel a few whacks on the anvil when this happened, so I just put it down while punishment was administered (cane or slipper, I can't remember - it was over 40 years ago), and then turned around to get on with the work.
So, I picked the bloody thing up with my hand. It took a short while for me to realise how hot it still was. There was a bit of a funny smell as well.

An embarrasing one.
I was being filmed by the BBC for Animal Park, after making some sculpture for Longleat.
I am to put it mildly nervous around this kind of thing.
Here we have the brave artiste welding, than talking about welding, then the pillock artiste leans on the piece of work he has just finished.
Must have looked great, the clip never made it onot the programme but I am waiting for it to appear on some humorous TV show.
Re Sam's boy. It drives me bloody mad, you have a nasty accident and people say 'You were lucky'. He wasn't he fell out of a damn tree and bashed himself in. He is fortunate it was not worse, but lucky???? I can remember yelling this at somebody while drug addled (medically administered) after almost being killed in a motorbike accident. Rant over.

cross drilling a piece of tube in the pillar drill one xmas eve but put the tube in the tee slot of the drill table [laziness] instead of the ''nippy'' vice, of course the drill snatched when it went through,whipped the tube round & ripped my thumb nail clean off, that was bad enough but subsiquent visits to the hospital for dressing changes & they all STUCK to the nail bed!!! it ****** we hurt!!!

Pulling down a 6m shop front hording (in a shopping mall).
Breaking up plasterboard and disposing of the metal 'stud'
The stud was 6m so folding it into 3 (still 1 piece) and throwing it into massive container skips.
Typically whilst throwing the last one it wobbled in the air as I was launching it and 'unfolded' causing 1 end to hit the container and stop dead in it's tracks whilst my right hand is still trying to follow through from the launching over my head.
Instantly tore my right little finger tendon in half and bled quite a lot
Are we allowed to post pics or is it too gorey?
I'll link them instead and if it's too much please take them down.

Had to wear a cast and then this funny spoon-like splint for nearly 2 months so I didn't move my little finger.

When younger
Just off the thread slightly .When I was about 12 years old .We had set some bricks and a plank of wood and were 'Ramping' .I had an little Raleigh Boxer the baby Grifter for those who can remember them (shows my age at the time) the Ramp was very high so I got a run up, got well air bone but in mid air the bike got away from me (being way to small did not help) so it was going to be a bumpy landing, my bum took the full force .The brusing was extensive .I could not sit down for days when I think back I could have been crippled .
Another time was we were jumping between walls I missed my landing my shin went down the front edge of the wall the blood was flowing really well a pair of jeans ruined .Lots of bandages (I had started work by this time ) so a week of struggling to walk was to follow .I still have a section of shin that has less skin than the rest.
When I used to work at a bakery they were having a door way cut into a wall by a builder using a disc cutter the blade was old so I have been told, any way it kicked out straight across his knee .The ambulance crew arrived and there first comment was 'is your bread that tough that you needed a disc cutter' The case went to court as the HSE got involved. He made a good recovery.

1968. I had just bought an early AH Sprite Mk2 and was working on something under the bonnet - don't remember what - when I earthed the battery with my steel watch strap. The strap became extremely hot as a small weld formed right on the corner of the clasp and it needed the leverage from a screwdriver to break it. I remember there was a kind of roast pork smell and I have a scar about 1.25" by .5" on my wrist to this day.
A valuable lesson about jewelery and engineering learned that day, right up there with not trying to catch chisels as they roll off the bench.

Wifey always complains about me not having the habit of wearing a wedding ring.
I tried explaining to her what can happen with the combination of rings, fingers and machinery and why you get into the habit of not wearing one, but it doesn't cut much ice.
I suppose I should just practice wearing it regularly as I haven't been near lathes, mills and pillar drills for ages now.
I tend to restrict my accidents to stabbing the palm of a hand with a screwdriver.

I pulled over a stack of flags on my foot when I was 3 and crushed my foot,
My mate made a homemade sledge that found its way into my leg resulting in 28 stitches and being 3mm from a major artery in my leg,
Got stabbed in the hand, 5 stitches
chopped a chunk out the end of my finger and just caught the nerve,
Dropped a concrete block on my finger, the finger was between two concrete blocks.
Slit my finger open with a kitchen knife, 5 mire stitches,
Burnt my legs in concrete,
had asbestos in my eye
Fell down a metal flight of stairs, knocked myself out and stopped in the snow long enough to need a stiff drink.
Broke my hand fighting with a desk
There are loads more but Im getting bored, I havent had many that involve machinery but had a few close calls.. last week I went to grab a grinder that was falling of a table and nearly cut though my wrists when lifting that back end of a mini.

Hi debs, no doubt there will be something to add in the near future.
Some from just looking at the scars on my arms and hands..
Broke most my knuckles,
came close to slicing my wrist when some glass broke in my hands,
caught my forearm on a red hot grill (8 inch scar just bellow my elbow),
dropped a blow lamp (the red hot tip) on my hand,
its a good job my old man is a Dr or I would have spent enough time in hospitals not to be having fun and hurting myself.

Just recently trimming sheeps feet I was digging down between the horn and sole to remove impacted mud,when the ewe kicked her foot away and of course I stabbed myself this bled like a stuck pig, healing nicely though and didnt go septic,considering the nature and depth of the wound this was a surprise.
I would have taken photos but I was too busy swearing at myself and the sheep.
Another a six inch nail in my hand dismantling a fence, I have had black tar that was painted to the stable wall under four finger nails whilst picking up loose hay in a corner, this filled up the entire nail to the bed, now this hurt like crazy on its own, then further pain was inflicted in the form a ring block at the local A&E, then the subsequent scraping out between the nail and the pink bit underneath.
The most agonising thing I have ever had though was when Thomas stood on my foot whilst removing his bridle, he turned round to look at me (still standing on my big toe) twisted the nail clean off.
Bearing in mind 'thomas' was a 17.2 Hanovarian and built like the Titanic I am surprised he didnt grind myfoot into the concrete.
