Well interesting situation to report, I just bought a third 20/40v battery just recently when they came out again online as I wanted more backup in case things go wrong and then they did!! Within a couple of days one of my older one yr old batteries decided it didn’t want to take a charge and showed the flashing red light!! It was working well until then so I managed to swap it for a replacement in the same week from the store although they were iffy about it. Now a few weeks down the line and my second ‘older’ battery is doing the same thing, flashing red failure light just like the other from the same batch!! I cleaned the terminals on the battery but not much different although it’s taken a very small charge ( must have been when on green). Trouble is that because it’s a high amp battery it’s quite a long time between charges and might have been earlier to spot if it was just a 20v.
I’ll see how Aldi rectifies this situation...

I've said elsewhere I had to return an SDS drill to Lidl just outside the year after purchase but well within the 3 years guarantee. The girl on the till tried scanning my receipt to give a refund but it wouldn't compute.
I had to contact Lidl customer service who were a pita, slow and needed chasing. They eventually put me in contact with Kompernass in Germany. Super efficient and I got a new drill.

That's one of the issues I guess that these tools/batteries aren't always in stock in the stores. If you go to the store inside a year and they've none in I guess they have no option but to direct you to the manufacturer.
I won't ever be investing in the battery technology just the occasional tool to play with on the Makita battery platform.

Makita battery to Ferrex tool adapter. Printed standing up (needs less support). Some speed and retraction changes made, copied from the Cura profile site @ukracer put us onto. Fingers crossed it'll look alright under the supports. 95% done at just over 8hrs now. Looking "glossy":
Not sure on having the layers this way tbh...
Just got to wait for my 1mm copper sheet to turn up to make the battery tabs now.
(Option to make the battery tabs from 9x1mm copper strip but that'd involve a mod to the model and an extra soldered joint...just realised how I could do that!)

Video of it "ironing" the top layer. As I understand it it pushes the hot end in by a small amount and applies slight pressure to fill gaps or something and melts that layer in a zig zag pattern:

As mentioned before, printing in this black PLA and it's terrible to photograph. The flash just bounces back. Worst bit on this print are the ends that fit into the Ferrex tool. This, where supports were. It'll be hidden etc but still annoying.
It does @ukracer, slide onto the Ferrex tool a bit tight still like you said when trying the slice. After a couple of on/offs it gets better. Weird as it's a constant 52mm wide rather than a nom. 56/52 taper to match the tapered female of the Ferrex tool. Might put a little radius on the top edge. Seems to get tighter further in a bit as well.
The Makita side fits the battery like a glove.

I DON'T BELIEVE IT!
Somehow I've managed to design this Mak2Fer thing so the + & - terminals are on opposite sides!
Back to the drawing board for some crossover action!
EDIT: As I'm never going to buy a Ferrex battery and charger it's probably quicker to rewire the tool itself.

Where the adapter slides into the tool is a little tight. I've not gotten to the bottom of that yet.
Where the Makita battery slides into the adapter is perfect.

Currently printing the revised Makita to Ferrex adapter with "crossover" channels for the copper strips to change the polarity. Just adding the embossed MAK2FER each side puts a couple more hours on the print. Also taken .25mm off the thickness of the bit that slides into the Ferrex tool:
Trying to get my head round what I need to measure out of what I have printed..lol

It's not bad. In the cold light of day this morning,
To recap, we printed a 4 piece Makita battery to Ferrex tool, downloaded off of I think Tinkercad previously. It was OK but had a push button mechanism and needed a spring to release it from the Ferrex tool. It was also in two main pieces that needed gluing/screwing together. This then is my redesign from scratch all measured up with the Vernier. 1 main piece, slimline and the catch to hold it on the Ferrex tool is just a drop in piece that gets held in by a combination of friction and the Makita battery being fitted. Always a chance of course it could drop out and get lost. Tbh a loose fit catch with a bit of duct tape over it would serve fine. I have no Ferrex batteries so it never really needs to come off.
The bug with this one is still the ragged ends where it fits to the Ferrex tool. These were supported ends and after removing the supports:
Yes this will be hidden but it's an annoying pita that lets down an otherwise fairly good print.
As I say it gets hidden. Shown here on the 20V Ferrex grinder bought from Aldi's bargain bin. Pity the bloody thing was duff!
Onto the 10mm2 copper batter tabs today. To get + & - swapped over I've put in channels for the busbars. Might make them a bit wider/deeper so I can put some red/black heat shrink over them. (None of this new fangled blue/brown thank you!)
The busbar will poke thru the other side, turn through 90deg, then get formed to make "sprung" battery connectors to engage with the blades in the base of the Ferrex tool. Where it turns through 90deg I might make a soldered (rivetted?) joint to save cutting a complicated and potentially awkward L shape from the sheet. I even considered 10mm2 cable instead of a busbar arrangement. I wonder if I could just solder the joint in the picture below?
Got a couple of sheets of 1mm thick copper here. I could do with some proper (expensive) jewellers scissors as my aviation snips are a bit too aggressive. Tempted to try this picture frame "cropper". Mega expensive cast blades on it. I was using it to cut perfect mitres on pvc tile trim. Can't remember if my chippy mate gave or lent it to me! I rang him last night to ask but forgot why I'd rung him and got sidetracked...

Might be worth asking if @MattH could help. I don't mind paying to get some cut. One of my future plans was to add a Lazer head to my CNC in the future. But I am years behind Matth and a much much smaller scale and a lot less ability.
Maybe, it's very wasteful of the copper hacking them out by hand plus you need to beat them flat after.
In true Blue Peter style I'll carry on with my coloured card templates for the mo for this prototype ...
