New project. A cheap VW Caddy…..(do they exist?????)

My mate and neighbour will be doing the changeover so that’ll be his issue not mine. This engine has 180k so not too surprised on the worn seal thing. Problem is ppl drive these TD cars about, turbo is spinning at like 30k and when they stop, no-one waits for the turbo to cool down etc, they just jump out after switching off. Remember the 80’s practice of using turbo timers to stop the issue.

Today I cut the B pillar closing trims from the bulkheads and dressed them ready for carpet. Probably gonna get some Alcantara for the pillar trims to improve quality and comfort in the cabin before fitting these.

from what i recall on that the main bearings have iron oxide in the bearing surface to help prevent damage in stop start vehicles from constant oil pressure loss
yes you read that right IRON OXIDE................rust!
did make me laugh when i found out

Van had its turbo fitted today without issue, just waiting on a new turbo to exhaust clamp and a new caliper.
Whilst my mate was fitting the turbo I removed the DS caliper as it’s seized, fitted a new outer joint to the DS shaft, and fitted new pads to the PS. Should be good to go tomorrow AM.

All finished, new turbo, new OS caliper, new pads, new OS CV joint and boot, oil, filter and diesel filter. So that’s the servicing done for a while.

Yesterdays work was to fit my new Caddy life maxi mirrors, such a nicer look.

Then today I got my Suede from Harrison Trim Supplies and wrapped my B pillar trims. Such a nice finish and fairly easy.

No mate, unbacked and it’s very rubber like because of it. Obviously has its limitations but I’ve just finished the roof, roof tray, B pillar covers and A pillar covers. They have a triangular window and I only just managed to get it sorted.

Quick job today to remove both door pillar trims, a quick covering of 3M Matt carbon and back on. Instant improvement. Just 20 or so minutes.

Saturday my daughters boyf asked if I could go view a modified caddy near Ross on Wye and he purchased this.

Then Sunday I got a full function remote key done outside the house for just £70 and a second one for the Nardo grey caddy above. I then agreed to buy a 2 month old Autel MX808 scanner from him as he’d just upgraded to an all singing all dancing scanner and the Autel was surplus to requirements.

I’ve just purchased VCDS so I can now code out certain things like light faults and enable auto locking etc. Cleared my lights error after fitting the led blinkers
