New roll, amazing!

Well, i fitted the new liner, also threw in a new tip mount and tip.

Results so far seem to show no more globular behaviour which is good, need to test some more to see if spatter is any better but at least consistency seems to have returned.

Refitted the 0.6mm wire today, quick adjustment and perfection - zero spatter.


The 0.6 needs a lot of wire feed, almost max on my unit so i'm limited to 3mm or thereabouts but the change is amazing, no spatter, no cleanup.

No idea whats going on, been using 0.8mm for a long time. The only thing i have not changed is the gas bottle, still got about 20% left on this one.

Have you got any more 0.8 wire you can use or borrow a reel to test with?

Nah, i only keep the roll on the machine as it lasts me a long time, i have one other roll of 0.6mm or can buy a different brand of 0.8mm??

Could the groove on the 0.8mm roller be worn causing slip? Maybe try a different brand of good quality wire.
Those 0.6mm welds look nice!

The 0.6 welds look nice....if your getting good results with 0.6 wire..then it points towards a contaminated roll of point .8 wire.

I'm doubting that because the last roll was the same and this one is brand new from a new delivery, different supplier and sealed package.

Maybe but it hasn't really done much work, i use maybe 2.5kg a year max

It's strange...your getting great results with the 0.6 but hit and miss with the 0.8 .had similar problems over the years but have always traced it back to the wire being left in the machine and eventually contaminated.

Yer it's all you can do...you changed and replaced all the bits that could possibly be a problem..

All seem pretty ok to me, the lap is not one that i do so had a double try at that, i think the back is a bit better, torch angle was off on the front.

So its pretty consistent and easy to get a decent bead going on the 0.6mm, pretty much limited to 3mm though so less than ideal for some jobs.

I will call R-Tech Monday and see if they have a new wire-feed roller for it, thats about the last bit to change apart from the gas which is down to 25bar on a Y size Argoshield so getting near a refill.

yeah i hope i do find it - all thats left is gas, wire-feed, machine

i might advance the gas refill, its low anyway so no big loss, hopefully get WF roller this week.

Ok, got the new feed roller fitted, loaded up the 0.8mm and did some tests.

Fillet - seems ok?


Lap - bit of spatter but i think a very tidy weld...


Two more fillets...


Edge joint on my bending steel, some spatter just seen on the left angle but ok.


And then i did some longer beads and it went tits up again, globular random welds.

I got some video of the machine, at 13s you can hear the weld crackle go crap but the feed looks ok, can't see a stutter, then ran more beads and the crackle sounds pretty rough i think??

I can change back to 0.6 for a fair bit of my work but i don't like having something thats not right and not knowing why. All thats left to change is the gas and i don't think this is a gas issue.

To get the same metal deposit with .8 you would have to have to have the wire going about half the speed that you are with the .6 does that seem how it seems to run ?
maybe with the .6 you are approaching spray or getting actually into spray?

That sounds crap compared to my r tech mine is loverly and smooth just a buzz

sorry but complete opposite to me, sounds like too much wire and its jerking and sticking to the tip, also poss not enough power?
that is why its better with half the metal being deposited into the weld.
