Thunderbolt,1 of the items I replaced was the carb,new for £85! Indian made.it cured the pinking as all the messing with the carb slide failed to,I can only assume it was worn,as I had changed the main jet as I think the bike was ridden at altitude.

Went to an auction for work yesterday, some stunningly rare cars there. Iv never seen a modern spyker in the flesh the level of detail was incredible I can’t understand why there wasn’t more of them on the roads
the triumph tr6 had bills for £70k with an estimate of £28-£35k. A hell of a lot of cars didn’t make there estimate but luckily for the owners it went for £57,732. The detail was stunning in the car

Some nice stuff there, the KVA is lovely. I think a fair few of those cars were at the storage facility we use as I recognise a couple. The gold Cobra I saw at a Brooklands auction a couple of years back. I bet the S63 owner was pleased with the final sale price......

Great photos, thanks for posting. The last photo of what looks like a Rolls Royce Phantom - is that really Gold plate on all the brightwork? If so, I think it proves the saying that it really isn't possible to buy good taste.

my former boss has two and I knew he would like it
personally I didn’t like the pin stripe. Hand drawn or not it was rough as
there was a maybach and an S63 LWB but the build on the may back was awful

If you get a chance at driving an S65 take it, that is a machine.
Iv had a c63 and driven a 63 black edition, only benefit working for a car trader
That is amongst half a million pound cars and some very old race cars over the years

A long story here:
My father had always been a proper car nut, he was an incredibly talented engineer, had rebuilt a Daimler 16/20 with a sleeve valve engine, 20HP Rolls Royce, numerous E types etc..
When I was 6 years old he fancied a new project, went to an auction to see a car but it didn't reach the reserve, in the end he did a deal with the seller after the auction and bought a 1938 Lammas Graham. This was an Anglo American venture, the chassis and engine were from the American Graham and the body was coach built by a couple of different UK companies, Carlton etc. In total only 52 were built and there was only 4 left in existence in the early 90s, there might even be less now.
This was taken outside Lichfield Cathedral at some point during the 40s, the original owner was the Sheriff of Lichfield:
It was in quite a state, full of wood worm, bent chassis, not running, loads of parts missing having been taken apart over the previous 20 years and messed about with.
I remember going with him to pick it up and then flat towing it on an A Frame behind a Ford Granada, something you wouldn't dare do today.
Unfortunately he died in '93 when I was 10 years old, at the time he died he'd made massive progress on the car, he'd rebuilt the 3.7L supercharged straight 6, infant he'd rebuilt everything and was just getting into the bodywork which consisted of an ash frame with an aluminium panel overt the top, steel wings and steel running boards, new running boards had been made and new edges put onto the wings.
This was the state of the car when he died:
It took quite a long time before we decided to do anything with it, there was no way I wanted to sell the car but equally it was a MASSIVE project to complete it. When I turned 15 I started doing little bits to it, finishing bits off, but knew it needed a pro to do the bodywork, it was way too much for me. I spoke to a lot of coach builders and decided on one near Derby. So we took the car to him, along with a LOT of parts, this is what came back a few months later:
There was still a lot of work to do, it had never run in our ownership, my dad completely rebuilt the engine and super charger but it hadn't ever fired so this was my first mission. I fabricated an exhaust from parts out of the skip of a local exhaust place, then rigged up some temporary electrics and eventually got it running, unsurprisingly it ran perfectly, silky smooth, I'd expect nothing less from the work my dad did.
Then I got all the fluids filled and brakes bled and finally it drove!! A massive triumph.
By now I was a 21 year old lad, I knew it needed about £20-30K spending to finish it, paint was going to be a massive bill, trim wouldn't be cheap, let alone all the bits it had missing. I had lost some of the passion for it, it's not really the car that excites a lad in his 20s.
So the time came to sell it, I had plenty of tyre kickers but then I spoke to a chap I'd been in touch with as he had one of the Lammas's that were left, he was very keen to purchase it, mostly because it was more complete than his car and he could then use it to copy parts to complete his.
We ended up doing a deal but with one big condition, when my sister got married (at that point she hadn't even met her future husband) we'd like to borrow it back to be the wedding car. I had a final drive of it onto the trailer:
Some 8 years or so later and my sister was getting married...... so I called John up (we had kept in touch), asked him how he was getting on and it was very nearly road worthy, as the wedding drew closer it got much tighter, in the end John trailered the car to the wedding from (Margate to Kingston) and the car my late father poured his heart and soul into finally took his daughter to her wedding, it was a proper tear jerker!
John had done a great job, and it was so lovely to see the car in it's glory once again.

Then a 1962 MG1100 which I can't find a photograph of. Then in 1973 a 1951 Alvis TA21 - as acquired from a scrap yard:
Stretching the 'old' rather more in 1976 a Lotus 7 - as an exercise for the student, where was it registered?
After that we are into uninteresting 1960's and onwards fodder

The Sunbeam is a Perth registration, the Alvis Wigan, the Minx Carlisle. We await a student to identify the Lotus.
Edit the Edit: to help you out it originally carried a TCO plate then a TJ one before the ND one. If I make it any easier, I'd have to tell you which mine I worked at when I bought it!
