Looking closely, it's actually badged as an Austin. As well as the badge, it also has the slightly different 'Austin' grille.. BMC/BL badge engineering taken to its ludicrous conclusion.

the later ones was badged as Austin not sure on the year change we had a 1970 that was Austin as a garage runabout

Yep, badge engineering was roundly trashed at the time, but is rampant now. Jeep, on your knees and kiss the ring, 'cept, now based on a Fiat...(the twee one..)
I still can't see why people need to lower US stuff so it looks like the springs have collapsed. Hardly keeping the faith. (Faiths might differer, lots to choosed from there..)

Likely a 914, not so many of the 6's. Great concept, but the Porsche lot wouldn't buy it, in the same way that the Boxter is a realy good car, but not 'pure'. At least the 904 put the engine in the right place and did rather well in competition.
Long time back, I drove a 356, a Beetle with enough power to frighten you. Bit later, I nearly bought a 911S, likely it would have seriously shortened my life, as I drove a bit quickly then and they did not forgive.
Porsche did try some good ones, like the 928, but expensive and not OK with the purists.

One drove past us while we were walking in Islington last weekend, it sounded really good in a V8 burble way which I did not remember from the days when they were current. Anyway the point was that I could not remember what they were called, not 924, not 944, not 968, a couple of hours later I remembered whilst having a pub lunch.

Bit of the problem is the type numbers remember the 911, even if they are much later, but still based on it.
Little story:
Friend in Iberia aquired a GF who was the classic daddy's girl. He (daddy) bought her a 928, but she walked past it as it was the 'wrong colour' !! Bit later, Daddie's finances took a bad turn and she finally adjusted to reality, too late...
While it was current, and we were bug eyed!! She bought a Disco, as he had one. When he said this isn't going to work, she drove off out of his place, turned, and drove hard into the wall next to his gates (actually mine..) makng a mess of the stone wall and her Disco. Life had a few entertainments back then..

Oh, the 911 bit was because it was actually originally a design number with a zero in it. After they had produced a few, Peugeot legaly reminded them that any car production number with a zero in the middle was copyright by them. So it was shifted to 911

I think that has been photoshopped. I know the original 500 was small but not that small. My wife has one of the new ones and at 6'1" I find it small inside. If the old ones were really that size I'd be wearing it like a vest.
