Is this the one at Waitangi?
Nice Job!Great Mini show today in Portrush, Northern Ireland. A class win for my little 1963 mk1. A truly immaculate 1959 example from first year of mini production. (red car with open bonnet ) was there and I'm amazed it didn't win so really pleased. View attachment 463481View attachment 463482
I recall reading that the very early shells were lighter, 59-61?? Mine's '63. The steel used in the early cars seemed to be better quality though as a lot of them didn't rust as badly as the later cars which you could hear rusting!Nice Job!
Slightly curious, but after rebuilding my brother's Cooper with a new factory shell in errmm, '66? I wanted to do similar on my highly tuned van. Found an early saloon shell in the scrappy with a bit of frontal corner damage, so sorted that and had an idea to do Mini 7 racing. The early shells were about 40lbs lighter. Does yours fit in that? Slightly thinner metal.
After busting the crank on the 850 unit.. ( Do not use 7,000 rpm with a 731 cam!) I put in a 998 unit built from a destroked 1100 (same block and loads in the scrap yard..) Ended up with a little over 80hp and a really fun car. Deseamed it too. But, it tended to attract the 'Official' attention, as just a bit odd. Friend offered an Alpine and I never got stopped again..
Quite a while ago, but much fun had at the time...
Crikey - a Blackjack - I've not ever seen on on the roads.
It was but what a useless thing it was! (Sierra pickup). I had a German Tischer demountable camper body I used to put on the back. One day on the way back from a day's windsurfing I had to kick my mate out on a short steep hill to push! I changed it for a 2wd Hi-Lux which always flew up no trouble.Seem to remember the Ford P100 1.8td had a few years back was made in SA

Yes they were. Looked like they were assembled after a bin raid of tina and grannie parts iirc.Seem to remember the Ford P100 1.8td had a few years back was made in SA

I was given a crashed one[mk V looking] that was dumped on a mates drive! I put the front end off a mk4 tina on it.
I pulled straight some of it, as I think there was something grannie looking about front suspension.
When did they switch over to Sierra looking P100s?
These used to be kind of popular:It was but what a useless thing it was! (Sierra pickup). I had a German Tischer demountable camper body I used to put on the back. I think those are permanently attached to the cab, I could wind mine up on legs and drive out from underneath leaving the living accommodation behind like in the first pic. These used to be kind of popular:
I've seen a fiberglass version, have become quite collectable, as they don't seem to deteriorate as much,
here is one version:
