If you do a lot with sheet goods there invaluable. Also anything laminated or veneered.
Though I'd miss plunge cutting worktop cut outs most. Makes it easy and far safer than plunging a skilly.
Never plane heads and feet of doors these days. Far quicker and easier with the track saw.
Also for cutting a slight angle on the leading edge of doors. More accurate than free handing with a planer.
There somewhere between a tablesaw and a skillsaw.
Ive got a circ saw plus 2 table saws, different blade sizes, but im told the track saws are more accurate...and you can see the reasoning......Ive been fancying one for ages but couldnt really stand the earache (from the wife) about buying more tools. It looks good but as Ive never had one before that means nothing.
Ive got quite a busy Feb coming up....hospital appointments....so I doubt if it will get used much for a while
Bit of a thread drift but I was shocked at how cheap 2nd hand boats have become. I am looking for a 4m cruising dinghy and trailer and an aquantance said a friend was selling their boat, turns out it's a 9m Van De Stadt so a yacht, not a dinghy but he was desperate to sell it, he started off with a price of £3500 and he pretty soon offered it to me for £1800!Interesting. Mate has a Festool track saw. Got it from a friend who he used to employ on apartement refurbs in London. Looked very good, but his mate rejected it as it was a bit worn and no longer accurate enough for good work.
I wonder how good the lower priced offerings are for someone like his mate, who obviously works to close fits.
Drifting a bit.... I was talking to a bloke in UK about CNC boat kits. Natch, some adds popped up next to our mails. A UK co, wuld supply a CNC cutting table for about £7K. Quite cheap, I thought. Accuracy to half a mm; so good enough for the kits.
Bit later, talking to friend in UK, who does bespoke kitchens, I mentioned this. He pointed out that he had paid £100K for his CNC kit, because half a mm was way too big a tolerance..

About 30 years old with all the running rigging replaced last year and a brand new unused main and jib, over all it's in good nick.
It's way too big for what I have in mind so I turned him down but apparently there is a glut of yachts on the market.

That's why I'm looking for a cruising dinghy, no storage costs so it's not costing you anything while your not using it. My days of paying marina fees 365 days a year when I only used the boat for a max of 30 days a year are long gone! Not the ones Id be interested in buying there isnt, needs to be lift keel, on a trailer, high performance. To dry sail on the reservoir and im way past getting my feet wet.
Now why have I not got a track saw mmmmmmmm what excuse can I find to buy one!

Should be fine mate. Better blades will give better performance snd lifespan.Would the blade it comes with be ok for trimming down doors? A mates Festool had a 48 tooth blade.
even wet covered in sawdust and mdf dust it doesn't bind. Base pushes most of the dust in front or behind as u move it.I was thinking the same I was thinking how useful it would be when just taking a slither off the edge of a sheet, that rail system would stop it walking off the edge.Though I did wonder how the track system would cope when its covered in sawdust or swarf and whether it would bind/stop if there was a build up Other than that one may fall into the shopping trolley next time I am in Aldi

Along with the multi tool. One of the best tools I ever bought... One of those How did I survive without it jobs
Yes seen the locked saws. Can't justify it right now. 18v skilly and a speed square is my current method if it doesn't justify my big mitre saw.I was late to the track saw party had just not noticed them for some reason, it wasn't until I was looking for a table saw and happened to clock a Carpenter in our office carpark saw up 5 sheets of plywood in minutes I realised what they were all about. Since I have had it its been used so much I really don't know how I survived, Also got one where the saws physically locked to a short track that it slides on, its like having a mitre saw in your hand perfect 90 and angled cross cuts in seconds. Did some decking with it recently was so efficient with accurate repeatable cuts.
