Plunge / Track Saw

Having spent £60 on a tracksaw I really don't need I thought I'd look at some longer tracks. HOW MUCH...… A 1400mm extra track costs more than the saw cost, how does that figure?

Won't tell you how much my first festool cost with two 1400 tracks joining kit. (Need two 1400 for ripping boards lengthways in one hit) and a bag and systainer.
It paid for itself in the first month in saved time. Was installing fitted furniture for Hammonds at the time.

You will find other brands of track will fit but need to check which.

My problem is I can't find a link to Aldi's support site. I'm sure if I got some from them they would be more reasonable but I have discovered theses saws are made by Scheppach and their track is unique and not interchangeable with other manufacturers.

The fourth or fifth video in this series includes how to make longer track, obviously made from MDF of ply so not as good as an aluminium track but only costs a few quid.

Have a look at Peter Millard on YouTube, he's just done a whole series on track saws using the Aldi saw.

When you can get a saw with rails for £60, then buying the rails for £60, doesn’t seem such a bargain, you might as well buy 2 of the saws, the only thing you would need then is an extra joining piece,

Which you can buy for a bargain £20,

Though that appears to be a short piece of flat bar with a few holes drilled and tapped, and a few screws,


The adjustable stop that he makes in video 6 would work for me, so I will knock one of those up.

True but the saws don't normally sell for that price.

Re joining strips. I use two. One top one bottom of the rail. Much sturdier.

Well I've decided to make my own long track, I just want one to do doors at one go. I will use some 12mm MDF wider than the normal track so I can use some quick clamps to secure it and I have some lengths of aluminium section that I bought from B&Q some time back that is exactly the same width as the slot in the saw. The alu' section is deeper than the slot in the saw so it will need a rebate routing in the MDF to make it work but that's probably good as it will fix it properly. For my use it will be just as good as a ££££££ track.

Let us know how it turns out, I need to make some bedroom furniture, so will need to cut ply and mdf, in 8 foot sheets, I originally planned to use a offcut of a sheet and my circular saw, for the long cuts, but a track may be more useful.

Just make or buy parallel guides. Slide it up and continue the cut.

9 times out of ten this is my method anyway. Unless I've got a lot of ripping and il join the tracks.
As it's for wardrobes your gonna be cutting everything parallel anyway

Please note. I said make or buy.
That's an example of the parallels in action. Just the first one I clicked on. Axminster do a much more reasonable set iirc
Easy to make something to suit. Doesn't have to be pretty. Just repeatable.

So the track saw saga continues. I went in my local Aldi this morning to do normal shopping and noticed they still had one of the track saws left, however the box was all broken and the little bag with the instructions, an Allen key and some sort of little plastic clamp thing was missing. I asked the shop manager if he would sell me the tracks separately as obviously no one was going to by the thing as it was. No, he says but I'll sell you the whole thing for half price, £29 and change. So I now have two track saws and 4x700mm tracks. Anybody want to buy a track saw with no tracks or box?

Wow thats great....I should keep the saw....might come in handy for something...........My mate came round yesterday and I showed it him and the difference in price compared to the Screwfix Sheppach....he went straight down to Aldi and bought one, the last one for £59....hes planning a new garage roof so perfect.

I got lucky on track, Orbital Fasteners had a sale on Bosch FSN track a year or so ago. 2 x 1.6m lengths, joining piece and bag for 90 quid. Still expensive but far less than the going rate. I already had 1m of Mafell track which is the same as Bosch, now my router jigsaw and plunge saw all use the same track.
