Admission time, I bought a track saw. I found it in the St. Neots Aldi when I was working up there two weeks ago, last one in the shop with an obviously opened box but everything still looked to be bagged up and in there so I thought why not.
I have just had the chance to use it to cut down some 25mm ply which it did easily and left a great edge with very little splintering.
Obviously it was a brand new blade which would have helped the speed and quality of cut, but for now I am very happy with the saw, mind the track could do with a second joiner making as it tends to not lie flat at the joint between the two tracks.
Overall opinion:
Saw= better than expected.
Track= a bit disappointed but I think can be improved.

Yes a quick easy job to sort out a new joining strip, I just have to remember to do it.

I've bought some flat bar that is very nearly the same size as the joining strips. A few minutes with the angle grinder, pillar drill an a tap will sort it out. I will be doubling up on each join which should sort out any perceived issues with the tracks. Then I need to sort out some clamps, I won't be buying the proper ones!! not at those prices.
I would be up for an extra joiner if someone is willing to knock them out,
I could make one myself, if only everything wasn’t in storage at the moment, and before I get them out of storage, I need to build the workshop,
I could buy one, but they are £20 on eBay, which seems a tad expensive for a bit of steel, with a few holes drilled and tapped, and grub screws fitted.
Maybe I am just showing my northern tightness though

]They look easy enough to make, even easier if you have the right thickness bar lying around.

I sucomed on way way out from day out with the kid other half wanted to pop in to Aldi there was 3 boxes all opened I walked away turned back there was a 4th at the bottem of the pile I now have a track saw
Is there any point in keeping the circular saw now I have this ?

Also have a very precise depth gauge and are great for chopping out flooring leaving half a mm to snap off. sure that feature will be useful for a plumber
not sure about the aldi saw but mine will cut 10mm (i think ) from a wall. no way you could get that close with a skillyYes. there not that powerful. no way would i have used my tracksaw for ripping the 140mm oak posts down in half last week.
there a small tablesaw except you run the saw over the sheets not the other way around.

I'm also boxing a boiler in, slightly new experience for me but needs must and I'm sure it will be easier than clamping my big level 30mm away from the cut line and using my circular

Different league mate. For the price there asking its silly not to add it to your box.
At least yours is a sensible number all of mine have been 47mm or 36mm just to be awkward

The mrs is having a look in Aldi, if not I will order online
I'm also going to give the Erbauer stuff a try, starting with the jigsaw as I wont be lost if its rubbish. Will do a review
Our Aldi had a refit this week so I did wonder if they'd keep the reduced stock from before.
Turns out they did and they still had them in at £60.
Still, could have gone to the other 3 Aldis in York....
Which is handy really because I'd been considering something a bit bigger for sheetwork for a bit. This is better than some other options I'd looked at, and a lot easier than trying to hold a big sheet up to go through the bandsaw!
