When I worked in a Working Men's Club in the 1960's the sign for the bar could have read Dog-Friendly - Wife Free, but didn't need to as no female would have thought of going there.
That's what the Lounge was for - Wife Friendly - Bloke Free.

Our local one had an unofficial colour bar until well into the 80's
Our local ones were similarly sniffy about foreigners from down south - Durham, Hebburn, Jarrow etc.
There was no colour bar as apart from one local GP there were no non whites in town. There were separate Protestant and Roman Catholic Clubs though.

Water pump pliers they have longer arms
Draper Waterpump Pliers (240mm)

Seeing the finish on those water pump pliers, then phosphating these made up bolts is an option I'm mulling.
Fresh out of the citric acid and left to air dry without rinsing, they're slightly flash rusted. There's the odd shiny, black globules on some that picks off with your nail?
I could try dipping in either 24 or 48% phosphoric acid. Will that turn the rust into a stable, black coating? Do they need perhaps to be a bit rustier?

Welded all the bolts up. Dressed the ends with a flap disc for that olde worlde forged look. Heated as best as on locally produced charcoal, nowhere near cherry red and dipped in old engine oil:

The £30 Fakita cordless router is spot on tbh. Did a 1/4" deep cut in one hit. Rough on the bottom but that's down to me. Covered by the sign anyhow.
Need to drill / slot the sign so the slats can expand & contract.
(Stainless sign was free too).
