Replacing Rusty Bits

Back on the Amazon‘s rusty bits. Need to crack on, did some work on the OS rear bottom corner.

Wee 142 update as well.

Went for Goodyear efficientgrip performance 2 195 65 15 tyres for the ATS rims. Don't think you would want to go any wider on these rims. Also bought a set of GT rims, they were cheap so couldn't resist.

Next job is to strip out the seats and carpets. Fix any rust and add the soundproofing. Needs to be complete before end of the month.

Then some more suspension and engine mods in early March. New slightly lower progressive springs, a new good used front cross member which needs topcoating, new wishbones and PU bushes. Then a wee bit of engine upgrades; TT3 cam, timing gears, 7kg flywheel, clutch and unleaded head conversion.

Hopefully Covid permitting will be driving her down to Englandshire in April.

Only a few hours at the workshop but have the back corner cracked. It’s a pita but should come together ok now.

Bit of time today, got the lower corner all tacked together. There was a bit of tension in the panel so took a little effort to get it back correct for the repair sections.

Back on the 142 this week. Insulation finished just got the front seat to put back in. Some new rear lights to go in and need to finish fitting the new exterior trim. Productive week got a bunch of wee jobs done as well.

Is the grey sheeting on the floor of the 142 Mass Loaded Vinyl?
If so was it expensive to buy?

No but when I bought it they claim it is better than MLV. It is 5kg/m2 and is 2.5mm thick, it’s a product called Tecsound 50. I bought 5 or 6 rolls a few years back and it was a good bit cheaper than buying from the car insulation companies. You get plain tecsound, one with a adhesive backing and one with a shiny backing. The grey is the non adhesive type and the one on the rear arch is the self adhesive type.

Wee drive to the cottage and picked up by the classic car mechanic. Engine and suspension work, MOT style check over and service. In the meantime back on the Amazon and have a good front panel to restore which is off to be soda blasted tomorrow and epoxy primed.
