Thanks. Yeah it's nice to be able to chop one bit out and weld in a new bit but get's a bit more complicated when it involves several layers, even when they are just wee sections. Looking forward to getting this but done and welded.

Closed the section off today and happy to have it done. Was a pain welding the inside seam.

Am being seconded to another company and going to be very busy so not sure how much time will get on the car, hopefully a bit.

Just closing off under the rear quarter, had to modify the lower repair panel to seal off the area. It's getting there now and all looking alright and fitting up nicely.

more impressive stuff...do you find modifying panels like that on the car easier than with templates, or did you go that route because those other panels were already there?

A bit of both really. With this section I have the inner closing panel which I made oversize and cut it to size once the lower repair panel was fitted up. Due to having to fit and align to a number of areas I prefer to fit up the panel. To modify the repair panel I slit the flange so I could bend it to where I wanted it and then made a cardboard template for the section to weld in. I tacked the new bit in with the panel in place and then removed it and fully welded it on the bench.

I do use cardboard a lot to make wee templates out of.

Have made a start on the OS rear quarter. First cutting out rusty bits and previous boogers and so far welded in the new inner arch, couple of wee repairs, new front outer arch plug welded in place and rear outer arch ready to be welded. The outer arch repairs are for a sedan and not the best pressings so take a fair bit of fettling to get reasonable. Lots of pics.

It looked not too bad but then the guy restoring it also just bodged it more. Things like the sills are spot on, but the rear of the car has had repairs before and then not painted properly and caused more rust. Lots of just plating over repairs. Nearly all the rust gone though so light at the end of the tunnel.

Actually worked hard this weekend, well hard for me. :-)

Thought I’d give the 142 a good rust proofing, power wash, remove rust scale and loose underseal then rust proofing. Ha ha ha, so much for that plan. The car is reasonably solid but has been repaired before being a used 50 year old car, but have found things that need addressing. Rear inner arches, bit of chassis rail, bit of floor all have wee bits that needed fixing and the rear spare wheel wells. Hopefully get the NS wheel well finished this week and then over to the OS. I was hoping on just replacing the wheel well but bits needed doing around it which was caused by rust getting in under the flanges so they are now gone and all getting butt welded. Pics.
