A pleasure steamer on the Medina River. So far gone, it's squashing itself!

Is there any mechanical left?

Saw this outside an arts college that was getting demolished

Missing some parts but looked almost unused!

Chinesium so at least it won’t come back any worse quality when it’s recycled!

I wondered that as well..
So I peered through one of the holes, and it's full of water, can't see anything in there really.

Forgot to say, you get some very high tides here sometimes.
The tides in the Medina are easily altered by weather a hundred miles away, billions of tons of water force their way into the Solent and up the river. Sometimes they would come up nearly to deck level on that ship.

And normal tides would cover any machinery, twice a day. The ship also seems to be sinking into the mud anyway.

So I dont think restorable machinery is very likely, and it's been open to souvenir hunters and kids for years, so good luck finding a brass name plate or something.

It's on the East bank of the Medina River, IoW, halfway down to Newport if you are persistent, there is a marina there who might have some info. But you can get to the ship at low tide from the river bank, so you dont actually need anyone's permission..

The paddle steamer Ryde was the subject of a recent fund raising campaign to fund her restoration, the engines are still in her. They very nearly got there but the collapse of the bridge into the hull a few months back lead to the realisation that she was too far gone to be saved. All monies raised have been diverted to the ongoing rebuild of the Medway Queen.
It had been acknowledged that they would have had to have built an entirely new hull as was done with the Medway Queen as there was virtually nothing left that was saveable save the engines & a few other bits.

Found this in a "posh school" today, bits missing but in decent condition.



They play "rackets and fives" here and I think it's been used to make the rackets, the building is 1870's and I bet its it's almost as old!
Also found a pair of cast iron legs from something and really wanted to have them away but couldn't

Maybe next visit before they get skipped!

The Fire extinguisher is worth about £50.

If it is full, you need to have the contents disposed off. As quoted in the regulations.

It may have additives in it.
Plus water that old will have bugs in it.

The bugs will make you be glad of triple ply super soft paper.

I have a Ford D Series 10 tonner, not as bad as the one in your picture but it could do with some love. I've seen lots in Morocco but I never realised they exported them to NZ as well.

Did my apprenticeship fixing them, that’s where I learnt to weld!

Spotted a few neglected machines on a farm on the Ashbridge Estate Herts. Such a waste.

what amuses me is they are there for years rotting away and people wont part with them and never use them as they think they are worth a lot of money . then years later they are rusty relics and they go for scrap price only

Those legs look like they are the remains of a sheet metal bending roll,

Abandoned steel works hospital room...Firth Browns on Carlisle St, Sheffield.....I had my ears syringed in here in 1971....something completelty new to me...I was a bit concerned at first when the Nurse produced what appeared to be a giant Hyperdermic Needle......once done though I tip toed out as my feet were banging on the floor. Never used it again despite the new Nurse being very pleasant on the eye.
