Yes - looks pretty good. Just want to take my time disassembling it to avoid any nasties - my previous projects have been on larger vices.

I was lucky enough to find a Parkinson Swivel jaw vice too on my recent foray south - the one with the rotating back jaw, fixed with a pin. pics to follow.

Now I am properly jealous, that's my white whale ... looking forward to the pictures

I'd go with how it is, personally. BLO to seal it and call it done. Looks quite good as is.

Sorted, she finished it off with BLO, she also sealed the bench and many other things in the process

She did say she wasn't that sure what a vice was for apart from holding things that you are going to wallop, she's been watching me

So I gave a her a pile of scrap wood, and a normal screwdriver, an old stanley pump screwdriver and a little milwaukee cordless screwdriver and my old Makita drill, smallest cordless tools I have. I asked her which screwdriver was her favourite, the pump screwdriver was the hardest she said, the normal screwdriver was easiest as the wood kept spinning with the cordless, so she has now learned one of the many uses of a vice

1984 when I bought mine, paid eighty five quid I think .....

All the other kiddies were impressed when they where dragging extension leads and B&D drills into the BM's to fit phones :-)

My old makita was ex-BT, they let me take my hand tools with me when I took redundancy in 1992 and it was a good few years old then.

I regret not keeping my old leather linesmans tool case, I kept the tool wallet but gave it to someone a few years later.

The Makita drills back then were fantastic quality and thats why (brand loyalty) I stick with them today.. in truth I reckon the competition have probably caught up and passed them.. but ah well....

There's an oldfashioned vice on Ebay currently - where the static jaw is made in 2 castings and bolted together - presumably because they couldn't initially machine inside a single piece casting?

However, on this one, on one side there is a bolt into the side of the casting - anybody able to shed any light onto this?

The crude piece the bolt is holding doesn't show signs of movement. Could use more photos, but if you look closely between it and the hold down bolt, it looks like an attempted repair of a broken casting.

I'm came onto this site to look at mig welder topics and saw this thread for sending in pictures of bench vices. Come on really?? I'm mean who wants to talk about vices, they're just lumps of metal that grip things!! Okay, I admit I have an old record 34p, solid and dependable, lovely rachet action. They don't make them like this any more. I've attached a picture so everyone can see how lovely ...No stop... what am I doing???, I'm a closet vice junkie. I need help!!

Yes, I'm addicted, but what to expect from a former toolmaker. I've always been on record engineering vices, but I just love this one for my own small shop.
I bought it recently when the old one broke.

Some of you may recall this small little pipe vice I rescued last year.



It worked, to a fashion. But was stiff.

Striped it down. There was 4 layers of paint on it. The top being some sort of plastic paint.

Some might recall a product called "Plastic Dip". It was like that.
But a dip into hot embers got rid of that. Glad my neighbours were away it stunk.



Then a few days in hot caustic soda removed the rest of the junk paint and stuff.
Pressure washed down and a going over with a power wire left it ready for painting.



Big frame small parts.



Just needs the extra greas and paint removed from top of the saddle and it is all done.

So I'm still in east Germany, they're not mine sadly, but here's some east German vice porn for you vice addicts.

I was quite impressed with this one, then the boss caught me taking photos of the above and asked me why?
