A while back, I picked up a huge Chas Parker 956 vise (vice!). In good condition - and one I would definitely restore. I've just put it on Gumtree if anyone might be interested - it would look magnificent restored......

Chas Parker 956 - a 6" vice that opens at lease 10" and weighs 132lbs; By contrast :
Record No6 - a 6" vice that opens 8" and weighs 72lbs
And they say that size doesn't matter.......

Here's a photo of my record no75 (sorry about the messy garage) https://photos.app.goo.gl/MZd8kA8Bsgj1D8Ef1 I think it was made around 1935 to 40's looking at old catalogues and its in really good condition for it's age it looks like the original paint.

75's are very nice. That little bending jig under the front jaw is an excellent innovation, and stops the oil from dripping on your feet too. British design done well.

Just bought my first bench vice but as typical of me not even google throws up a reference to it lol . I bought it as I like the curves casted into it all over .
It's a Parkinson vice number 6 .... 25 quid off the bay of fleas .
The backstory is old gent selling in his 80's who's had it since new (and looking at the pics it does look one owner )
Anyone know if scored a goal , or shot one into my own net .

Funny that, I typed in 'Parkinson Vice Catalogue' and the first result was a PDF file of all their vices.

Nice find, better than any far east P.O.S. If everything works and you like it, you've scored a goal; can't really go wrong for £25.oo

This is my latest effort, Parkinson basically invented vices as we know them today.
This one doesn't have cylindrical rails but it does have a buttress thread. It's one above the camlock nut type but one below the modern qr system. I found a tiny scrap of crimson red paint sandwiched between a nut and washer, all else is just rust. I think this must have been their smallest wood vice.
