I think I may have over done it (won't be the first time)so I wanted a bigger vice you know how it goes an extra inch or two always helps no sniggering.plus I find the quick release would be handy so on the look out for a qr vice bigger than my record no 3 spy a parkinson no 8 qr on spock for 40 quid offered 30 he excepts happy days just picked it up and it' blooming enormous.

yours is No.8A, which is a 6" vice. It weighs 92lb, according to the sales literature

no 8 is different

I'd be tempted to give that a scrub down with some kerosene & a nylon pan scourer. It should shift that light rust, and you'll be surprised how much original paint is left underneath that grime.

Btw, you got a steal at that price. That's a very good vice.

I can't believe the rod thingy at the front is still straight can't wait to get some thick metal in its jaws and smash it in to submission with my sledge lol (only joking )

ive got a samsonia perfect and its already had a beating with 5mm thick steel in it and also a club hammer hitting the metal into a 90 degree angle

Mine was in a similar state when I got it, (the one on the left):

and cleaned up to this, just by using the method I mentioned.

A couple of small vices.
I had restored them in the past, only to a usable condition.

But they had been condemned to the scrap bin, so I saved them.




Striped down, de rusted, de-greased and cleaned up.
Sadly in the brief life this one has led, the screw threaded needed dressing square and usable again.





This one needed to be boiled in my penetrating fluid to get it to move. Beer, fire and a inflammable oil mix. @Parm
look away.

Just needs a small Roll Pin, something I will find this week and it is good to go.


The paint finish is Blue Smooth Hamerite. Not a bad colour to finish a vice, but it does last. If applied correctly. The bare metal is finished with a clear metal sealer.

I am still here, until the 2 llamas arrived we used them as Door stops.
So Mrs TYA was happy.
