Made a start on the clean up. Slightly rounded hole. And the end has flared. A dent half way down that i will lightly file out. If it doesn't cause a problem will leave as is. Love the raw metal.

Which end of the bench is best for mounting your vice?

As a predominantly right handed person, I've always mounted it on the left end. Usually when using hand tools at a vice, the right handed person will either reach for them or put them down on the right side; if that makes sense ?

I believe we had a discussion regarding this several months ago. Which ever end suits you best. I mostly work to the left of a vice. I'm right handed.

I've always had it to the left of the bench but my dad one in the middle and I tended to work with it on my right so I don't think it really makes a difference. I definitely didn't like it in the middle though.

All you need to consider placement-wise is make sure the back jaw overhangs the front of the bench by a little more than the thickness of your fingers, that way they don't get crushed if you hold something there while you tighten it.
