I bought an Abwood Machine vice for my big drill. It turned out to be a bit of a rookie mistake as the Abwood really needs a compound table underneath it. There's no adjustability when bolting it down in the drill table T-slots otherwise. I ended up with a cheap and cheerful drill vice with the slots running along the sides which is much more practical. The slots give some Y axis range which is otherwise missing.

After working on this vice I have now got the wants for the 8 inch jaw. Mine being 7 inch. Another one for the hunting list

I wouldn’t make such a foolish mistake (got sheep poo on the new doormat once, the fires of hell opened). But sure, I see no reason otherwise. Would you like me to have it all thrown into a big skip so you can fish it out and say ‘who threw this away?’

I have tried just about everything to remove these two bolts. They ain't having it. So I think I will have to drill them out .

Not my call, but it might have been a good idea to have left the bolts alone, and just sand blasted or cleaned that section intact. Can't see what there is to be gained by separating the parts you would want to be tightly fused together ?

I understand that. But in order to clean and make sure all is good a total separation of all parts was necessary . plus it would do my head in knowing that I had done the rest and left that part.

Finally found a two piece vice for my mill at a fair price. A Carver T-500,complete with stainless swarf covers.
I think this will be the last of my vice acquisitions.
