That's interesting, never heard that.Didn't Australia use numbers with the broad arrow? 6 was Tasmania at one time.

Counterfeiting Vices ?..........................................
Much later stamp to give the impression of a old vice with history. ......................................
You have your vices, delete your browers history, some like to fake things to make more ££££Counterfeiting Vices ?
Thanks for that info'. So it might be faked that's not really made my day.@Vono
You Parkenson vice, I was awake and board.
So I went looking for information on it.
Few details came to light.
No Stores number on it.
Stamped on top, late more stamping, 2 year date and no WD mark.
This, as far as I can find out means:
Taken up into a Government Department late war, from stores ear marked to the GPO, GPO mail trains or GPO Government mail.
Or earmarked for that from the factory.
Worse case.
Much later stamp to give the impression of a old vice with history.
It gave me something to do at 4am.
Must admit I was/am dubious about the stamps. The ware to the jaws has missed the stamps conveniently, and pitting has been softened by ware or emery paper, but not to the stamps which are still pretty crisp. Only my opinion, enjoy it for what it is.@Vono

That should be wear. Would you believe I was teaching English up to 3 months ago. Good grief.Must admit I was/am dubious about the stamps. Should I completely strip it and pull the spindle and all out?Paraffin/kerosene & a nylon scourer on the rusty bits, is the method I use. Gentle but effective. Just use a cloth instead of the scourer on the paint.
If it were mine I wouldn't , just lubricate and clean.Should I completely strip it and pull the spindle and all out?
Just acquired this Record 36, which seems to of had little use in its life. The jaws only open about 4" though so currently stripping it. I cant retract the slide from the body though, it gets stuck with about 2" left, probably for the same reason as the opening issue. I cant see anything that's binding, apart from maybe the rear most runner blocks. Any ideas ?

Thanks. I had already ran a stone across the slide and took a few high spots off. I did manage to free it last night though with the help of a car scissor jack to prise it open, didnt take much. It was mostly the bottom runner blocks that were gummed up with sawdust, rust and grease. So the cleanup begins.Check for nicks in the metal, (they may have bulged the surface slightly), & clean off as much surface rust from the slide as possible. It doesn't take much for them to bind.
