You could cut a piece of round bar in half ( length wise ) and weld it onto the back of your new jaw to simplify fettling.

Making it in 2 parts has crossed my mind.
Making a replaceable bolt in jaw is also a possibility, but a separate item I can just use for the odd job would probably be easier.

Brilliant idea.
You can buy so-called rounds, so to speak, sections of a very thick rod or steel wafers.
There are in almost all conceivable sizes. Is usually supplied in minimum size and you work off the excess.
When I build wheel weights for tractors I use something like this, the oversize is often very welcome without having to pay for the extra material.
Also comes in fist size and smaller.

I never got around to making a wiggle jaw accessory, but solved that potential need when I saw this swivel jaw bench vise back in February.
I'm sure I posted this awhile ago, but here are a few photos. It was in very good condition, just neglected.

Very nice. Prefer the red over the green in this case.

And not all ground away and spackled over.
You can tell it's an old vise and that's a good thing.

We don't have anything like that (as far as I know), so the question:
Is the rotating jaw clamped by vertical inclination on its back lower rim or is it the pressure of the front jaw over the workpiece that allows nothing but the rotating jaw to stop.
In that case, would it be possible for a very well oiled wedge as the workpiece to be pushed out sideways when it is clamped (just to understand the principle)?

It's just the clamping pressure which holds the rear jaw in position, on an angled piece.

Absolutely, doesn't even have to be oiled if the wedge is steep enough. Here's a part I made a few years ago held in a drill vice with a swivelling jaw.

It is mounted in a T-slot fashion. The second photo also shows one of the shims I made for the Premier vice's jaws, to deal with handle position if used on the drill press table.

My question - meanwhile answered with no - considered possible that perhaps from a clamping force of xN on, the rotatable jaw may tilt backwards minimally and lock there before the workpiece is properly clamped. This would then have a different effect, but after a little thought, this cannot be desired.
That's done, it was nonsense.

This principle is now understood.
I thank you for your patience with a continent dweller, where the industrial revolution had started some decades later ...

The problem with swivel jaws is, simply, grip. An angled piece will try to shoot out of the jaws as you tighten them. Good serrations else soft, grippy faces are best. Take this example:



I've glued leather strips to the inserts. They're sacrificial. It helps gripping angled pieces, as well as allowing threaded items etc. to be clamped with minimal damage.

The whole angled face thing I think depends alot o how big an angle your hoping to hold. The wider the angle, the less grip.
I see them more for things that just aren't square, rather than for holding full on triangular stuff.

I haven't heard that yet, as she knows that tools make money; however, I am retired now, so that may all change. ............... Nah, she's the best.
