the lever/end knob is very like that of the Entwistle and Kenyon, -- could there be a connection?
It also nudges my memory of some (UK?) patent pictures but can't find just now.

Anyhow, Great find and in fab condition for such an old vice. - I'm guessing there may be a central hole underneath for bench fixing and even swivelling?

I'll look those up thanks for that.
Yep it's a swivel vice, it's meant to go on a mounting swivel (that's long gone) but there is a threading mounting spigot (bit like a Record 74 AutoVice), so basically i've drilled one hole on the bench & bunged it through, works fine.
It does work rather nicely as a vice, the toothed sections on the side of the slide that the lever mechanism engages with are very nicely done, it's a quality bit of kit.

All back together, but I still need to replace the missing jaw. Don't have the right size of parallel or piece of tool steel to make one at the moment, so, a project for another day.

Is yours marked Stephen's in any way? I can't find a marking on mine.
They work really well don't they, i'm a bit surprised how effective a system the lever is.

Np no markings yes a very handy fast tight gripping vice
