ThanksThe "Record Steel" will be the older of the two, most likely the end of the main screw where the handle goes through will be a different shape on the old one.
I personally would avoid shot blasting as it will leave a rough finish to the machined areas, wire brush or electrolysis would be my preferred methods.

Nabbed off eBay just in time. Someone tried to gazump me!
Anyhow, not my discovery, a mate off another forum pointed it out. Fits my modus operandi though: poor description, chat up the seller, get them to give you a buy it now.
It does look like it spent the last few years as a boat anchor mind but I enjoy the challenge of restoration and these vices are AMAZING!

Its a Swindens. My third. Reluctantly sold one recently, this one was advertised as "big old vice".
You should see a thread of mine if you look.
Its a rotating body so you can set any angle for the jaws. Ideal for welding and general purpose. In fact, once you've used one, you miss the facility!

I saw that Swindens on eBay, Cornwall wasn't it? It does look like it's been in the sea I take it electrolysis is in it's near future?
The middle one has tight spots so needs looking at.
I would bolt the big one done but cant decide which part of the bench to bolt it to
